Intersting zinger on "Last Resort" last night...

"Last Resort" is a fairly decent show, interesting, very political.. (short synopsis from Wikipedia below)

the zinger... apparently the doctrine of nuclear first strike whenever the president feels like it is referred to as .....

the Bolton Doctrine.

Worth a watch... very military but some very strong, honorable characters (I like the captain)

Synopsis: the renegade crew of a United States Navy Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, the fictional USS Colorado (SSBN-753), that receives an order to launch nuclear missiles at Pakistan. When Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) asks for confirmation of the orders as they were received through a secondary system only used in the event that Washington DC is destroyed, he is relieved of command. His second in command, Lieutenant Commander Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman), also questions the orders and the vessel is fired upon by the USS Illinois (SSN-786) and two nuclear strikes are also made on Pakistan.

Realizing that they have been declared enemies of their own country, they seek refuge on the island of Sainte Marina (a fictional French island located in the Indian Ocean), commandeer a NATO communications facility, and declare a 200 mile exclusion zone around the island. When bombers are sent to attack the submarine and island, Captain Chaplin launches a nuclear missile towards the USA to impress upon them that he is serious. (it ends up 200+ miles in the ocean.. it was a bluff, never intended to hit land).

Now the crew must find a way to prove their innocence and find out who set them up so that they can return home.

Its an expensive show to film and the ratings aren't very good. Too bad, since I've enjoyed watching it.

.. they have investments in the sets et.al. Second season would be way less cost.. and the ratings are slowly growing.

I've given up starting watching these - because I get hooked and then never see the end of the story or a resolution because the show is cancelled before they can tell the whole story. A couple of shows with aliens, one where people are in a town they can't get out of, and what was that show last year - The River (I think that was the name). The other one that I thought was really exceptional was the Ashley Judd one - Missing. I really thought that show was well done. They pulled the plug on that one too and it won't be back.

These networks get you hooked then pull the plug and we are left hanging. I made the decision that this year I wasn't going to get hooked on these shows. This Last Resort and the other one is Revolution. Both are destined to be only one season shows. So I'm not watching. They messed with me one to many times and they are not going to get me again.

What was it Dubya said - Fool me once......well your never gonna fool me again.
