Is there another Abraham Lincoln out there somewhere?
Perhaps you think it is simple hyperbole? That our Republic does not need to be saved?
Perhaps I would have agreed a few months ago? Or even a few weeks ago?
But the Big Lie can no longer be killed. It has a life of its own, in my opinion. We had a chance to kill it but no one did. It is now a monster, living on its own, and no one that believes it will ever change their mind.
Would it make any difference if the Supreme Court made a ruling that denounced the Big Lie? Would it make any difference if the Select Committee comes out with all the facts and who was responsible for the attack upon our Capitol? Have we waited too long?
I'm not sure anyone can now save this Republic. The Big Lie has grown out of control.

(54,770 posts)...if the election were held today, we would not win Georgia. Because of the changes already made. I don't wish to sound too negative but we have a big job on our hands.

Yeah, there are some troubling aspects of the law that COULD happen. But there are remedies too.

(4,381 posts)on the road to perdition and ignominy. The problem is that a lot of us no longer believe that easy treatment and a chance to repent will make much difference. Civility has vanished, the unborn with no memory is cherished; criminality is no reason to take life - no ideas are worth dying for and hypocrisy and fear reign. We live on our monied debt to Founding Fathers and worship the Mother of Invention - the Fathers are long absent of civility, altruistic patriotic love and fear the competition of youth who fight with bullets aimed backwards, and Mother Nature, now an old hag, instead of a beautiful generous maiden, has taken up residence and is on a rampage to change the shape and living style of nations!
I'm glad I'm nearing the liberty in my road upon this land, though I do not seek it. I hope America finds a path less traveled for that will make all the difference. I fear the furious wreck on the freeway of this nation if it doesn't.

(16,093 posts)To save this Republic. We can whine n mope but that will not get anything done. Not one person can save us..it is all of us n if my prediction is right..its gonna be the women. Where are the men of any statue..besides Biden..who are lining up behind these assaults on voting rights n womens reproductive rights n climate change n infrastructure issues? History is full of women who took the back seat but change could not have happened without them. I think now, were gonna have to be n will be out front n dont count us out. Support these issues..dont watch em fade away.

(1,182 posts)has to be global. The era of imaginary borders and someone claiming to "represent" me is coming to a close. We're all "global citizens" now, whether we like it or not. The planet is making that perfectly clear.
So, no, the Republic doesn't need saving. The ideals we espouse should live on - freedom of assembly, of the "press", of individual, inalienable human rights - these most surely must survive.
But the systems of hierarchical control and oppression, and the concentration of power into too few hands - these must be phased out, or the mass extinctions will continue at our collective peril.

...I don't know...it's getting pretty late in this movie...I thought we would have hung a few thousand traitors by now, in and out of government and swept the place clean...
...the longer this has dragged on the more it's been impossibly politicized...
...we have the reins of power right now...if we don't get about doing it then it won't get done...kiss the Republic goodbye?
...it sure doesn't look good...
