....Laws should be passed mandating the wearing of masks in all public places...Why force someone to wear a seat belt,
when the mask does exactly the same thing. I know two students (were my students in the 80s) who rode a motorcycle
before there was a helmet requirement. So, they got into a crash and both died..
....Right now in Illinois, yes NOW..there is a requirement that all motorcycle riders must wear protective helmets...and,............. the exact same thing is true of bicycle riders..............
AND GUESS WHAT 90 PERCENT WEAR THE HELMETS, AND ALSO MOST PEOPLE ON Bicycles WEAR PROTECTIVE
HELMETS BECAUSE IT IS THE LAW.....
....................wHY THE LAW?....tHE PROCESS SAVES LIVES....IS THAT ROCKET SCIENCE?...
................. ..THE LAW SAVES LIVES... ...........................SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
STATES NEED TO PASS LAWS MANDATING MASK WEARING IN PUBLIC, NUMBER OF CASES OF COVID WILL GO DOWN
DRAMATICALLY...., HERE IT IS...."ANY PUBLIC OR PRIVATE EVENT THAT HAS MORE THAN FIVE PEOPLE, ALL PARTICIPANTS
MUST WEAR A MASK TO PROTECT ALL AT THE MEETING.
We had the same stupid arguments about seat belts..So...you don't believe me.... .here is simple proof... .
....................Total Proof that seat belts air bags...and other safety devises save lives..
........The following sentence must be put into google search......................................................
Motor vehicle fatality rate in U.S. by year..........................................................
.....................put that in .... Google Search... ..............................................................................
.............................................OK THAT IS NOT TOO DIFFICULT............IS IT?.....
WHEN YOU GET TO THE SITE....LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF DEATHS ON THE HIGHWAYS..........
KIND OF ASTONISHING EH?.................ok.....HERE IS THE GOOD PART....THE GREAT PART IF I CAN ADMIT......
AFTER 1980...THE DEATHS START TO GO DOWN, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE MORE CARS ON THE ROAD...LOOK FOR YOURSELF...
1979 & 1980 ...55,000 DEATHS ON HIGHWAYS...LAST YEAR ...35,000 DEATHS ON HIGHWAYS?.....
Right now double the cars on the highways...yes double or more....and 33% less deaths from 1980 to now...
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
WHY?....THE LAW MANDATED THAT ALL CARS BE EQUIPPED WITH SEAT BELTS, SHOULDER HARNESSES, AIR BAGS,
FRONT AND SIDE IMPACT AIR BAGS..............................................................................................................
...AND OTHER SAFETY DEVISES...LIKE CRUMPLE ZONES..AND SPECIAL KINDS OF FENDERS....THAT
PROTECT THE OCCUPANTS

(33,992 posts)When someone without a seatbelt is more severely injured than someone without a seatbelt, someone has to pay those costs. As a general rule, that cost gets spread among everyone who has insurance.

(12,795 posts)I was strictly meaning that not wearing a seatbelt doesn't put drivers around you at greater risk of having an accident; whereas not wearing a mask does put others around you at greater risk of contracting COVID-19.

(33,992 posts)as well as those around helmets: Namely they were only hurting themselves. The fact that they weren't only hurting themselves is one of the reasons the laws were ultimately enacted.

(115,576 posts)Actually, when seat belt laws were first passed people did bitch about them, same with motorcycle helmets. We don't hear much complaining any more about those things, though.

(8,317 posts)If you wanted the money, you passed the legislation. Todays Republican governors are crazy enough not to care, they would turn down health money in stead of mask or vaccine mandates.

Without mask mandates...........medicare will not be paid to eligible citizens..............
Got that, Repeat...Without mask mandates, medicare will not pay to eligible citizens
When all seniors wear them...everyone will wear them...seniors are good people....
Yes, I am a senior and many here are seniors and good people too
We are not stupid...we all wear masks...most if not all the time ...(except when we are totally alone)

(51,565 posts)The GQP loves to mix all laws into one, as if they are the same when they present it to the citizens. The moronic masses biy it every time.

(401 posts)All of the laws are at the state level.
The federal law withholds highway funds from the states that don't have the law.
Quick Quiz - Which is the ONLY state without a seatbelt law?
Answer - New Hampshire (they get a waiver every year, so they still get the money.
As for motorcycle helmet laws - also a state issue. NH, TX, & FL are among states without a helmet law.
That being said - I support seat belt laws, helmet laws and would support a mask law.

(31,927 posts)California, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Oregon, and Washington. Some other states have requirements for those under 18.
The waiver given to NH is typical. Many threats are made to states when a bill gets passed but in the end federal funding is not withheld from states. It would lead to a Constitutional challenge and no one wants to find out how it would turn out.

Public road access is a privilege. You can always walk.
And bicycle laws are enforceable with difficulty. Do you arrest a 13-year-old who took off his helmet or never put it on?
I know some would like to say "being in public" is a privilege, but it isn't. Nor is work a privilege. Nor obtaining food.
