Florida deputies and officers responded to an "active shooter rampage" early Sunday, as a gunman "outfitted in body armor" allegedly killed four people, including an infant, and wounded an 11-year-old girl before barricading himself inside a house and firing at law enforcement.


The unidentified suspect, who eventually surrendered to police, had come "ready for battle," had described himself a "survivalist" and allegedly admitted to "being high on meth," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at an initial press conference Sunday.

Judd described how a deputy initially responded to a "suspicious vehicle/person" call around 7:30 p.m. Saturday in an unincorporated area of Lakewood. A woman told authorities a man had arrived in a vehicle and told her, "God sent me here to speak with one of your daughters,’" Judd said.

Deputies canvassed the area for about 20 minutes but no one was found. Nine hours later, a lieutenant in the area on a separate call heard "two volleys of automatic gunfire" around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Judd said, and around the same time, 911 calls came in about the active shooting.

Officers do not believe the suspect was from the area, and are trying to determine a motive.

He said it is unclear at this time whether the suspect knew the victims.

But, Judd said, the suspect made statements to officials that he is a survivalist and was taking methamphetamines.

His truck had a Marine Corps license plate, and was equipped with a first aid kit and bandages to stop some bleeding.

He will be booked in county jail after he is released from the hospital.

'It would've been nice if he came out with a firearm,' Judd said. 'If he'd given us the opportunity, we'd have shot him up a lot, but he didn't because he was a coward.

'You see, it's easy to shoot innocent children and babies and people in the middle of the night when you've got the gun and they don't,' he said, 'but he was not much of a man.'

Judd concluded the news conference Sunday morning by saying: 'Crazy people with guns are dangerous - good people with guns keep crazy people with guns at bay.

Four people were killed, an 11-year-old girl was shot and deputies came under fire early Sunday in a neighborhood in North Lakeland.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the shootings took place at 4:30 a.m. in two separate houses, near North Socrum Loop Road and Fulton Green Road, less than a half mile north of Lake Gibson High School.

Meanwhile, authorities on the scene entered one of the homes, where they found an 11-year-old girl shot several times. The girl told deputies there were three dead people in the house. Deputies found a man, woman and infant dead from gunshot wounds. When deputies went to the home behind that one, they found another woman shot to death.

The 11-year-old girl was taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. A security guard at the hospital on Sunday afternoon said media were not allowed on the property. Judd said authorities were still searching for another young girl, "about 10 or 11 years old," but there was no evidence that she was on scene.

My logical conclusion in this case is that Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, Franklin Graham, et al must all be meth users. This guy uses meth and has a direct line to god. All those preachers speak as if they have that line to god as well, so they must use meth too.
