That should give everyone some idea of how hard it is to pass an amendment and get it ratified by the states. From time to time, someone here posts that "We Need a Constitutional Amendment" for one thing or another.
Given the fairly equal division of political positions in this country, along with a closely divided Congress, it will be almost impossible for any constitutional amendment proposal to succeed at this time.
We need to find other ways of making things happen. There won't be any new amendments to our Constitution until that sort of division in politics changes.

(2,343 posts)If it were easy, we'd have a 500-page constitution and no telling how many bad ideas codified (i.e. prohibition, presidential term limit, etc.).
But, I agree, amending the constitution isn't a viable option nowadays.

(17,310 posts)that the courts interpret what they and other established laws "really" mean. If the Supreme Court says that up is down, then that is what we have to live with.

the 26th Amendment made a ton of sense which is why it was ratified in 100 days.
