If TFG thought that he was going to win in 2024, TFG would not be selling this hotel

(3,213 posts)The building is iconic in DC, and I could see someone buying it to restore it to its original glory, and not the dump Trump turned it into.

(8,327 posts)The Federal Government owned the building. The lease should have been terminated as stipulated in the lease as soon as he was elected President.

(30,613 posts)Who would want that crap anyway? The place will have to be gutted again to restore it to any kind of elegance.
Deep State Witch
(10,421 posts)He's been trying to offload it for a while now, but nobody wants it. His brand is toxic, AND it's a National Historical Landmark (The Old Post Office). Of course, he didn't pay his contractors, so whoever is stuck with it may get sued for back wages.

(50,546 posts)We're up to butyl mercaptan, folks.
Naturally, after they purge the Trump corruption from the building using butyl mercaptan (it smells like a skunk, but skunk spray doesn't contain this chemical), they'll have to purge the smell of butyl mercaptan from the building. I believe getting rid of the stench will be easier than getting rid of the Trumps.

(2,092 posts)Because he would want a 'grift central' if he thought that he was going to be spending any time in DC. This is comforting, that he's trying to sell this hotel.

(14,144 posts)After his many bankruptcies his bankers making his loans required personal assets be put up as collateral against the value of the loans. If he misses his balloon payments when they become due his house of cards will be wiped out like it was hit by a category seven hurricane, a #7 earthquake, and a 70 foot ocean wave tsunami all at once.
He can not miss his up coming loan repayment schedules or he is liquidated absent any chance for negotiation.

(35,645 posts)I read it three times.
Oh how I would love to see that!
I saw a headline (didn't read the story) about Andrew Cuomo tonight. Said he was alone and had no friends. This is the kind of thing I would like to see written about trump. I would like it if he had no home and had to look for an apartment somewhere.

(19,190 posts)two, three or more times if he can't sell it.
He's been trying to sell it for almost two years now, but he's asking WAAAAY too much for it, of course. He'll get much less for it now than he would have last year.
He still has all that money from his former grifts as well, which adds up to almost $150 million, if I'm not mistaken.
Trump will get the money from somewhere, he always does. He's never been held responsible for any of his fuck-ups (and there have been so many) so I can't see it happening now.
If Melanie was smart she'd divorce him now.

(16,923 posts)Look at how many foreign dignitaries stayed there - sucking up to him by providing $$$$ to his 'corporation.'
There was a report earlier that one of our "Foreign Service" employees (AKA: Ambassadors), one that had won a bidding contest for the job, was directing all of Canada's business be directed to that hotel.
It WAS a serious part of the SCAM that TFG ran on this country - just like paying him to take 'time off' at his own resorts, and charging the USA to provide housing for his SS agents - and all of THAT money went to HIM - and NOBODY has done shit about it!

(19,190 posts)in NYC as well. Supposedly his tenants - those which he has remaining - aren't paying their rent, and can't be evicted because of the temporary suspension on evicting tenants ( which is now over). In essence, he's been living off his PAC and using the money he grifted from his cult. Don the con is still at it. You'd think his cult would get a little sick of handing over their money to this snake handling grifter, but they continue to pile abuse upon themselves. I think there's a lot of self-loathing going on with that bunch of dick-warts too.

(11,443 posts)To make money during the time you are president, of course countries to earn favor will buy your goods or services.
MyOwnPeace
(16,923 posts)However, the RepubliQans were getting their pockets and campaign funds stuffed and they had NO reason to try to stop the grift.
spooky3
(34,425 posts)and then subleases it to tenants, most of whom no longer pay. So I guess he is trying to sell leasing rights. But during the pandemic, those would probably be hard to sell even if it weren't Trump.
Just another example of Trump's failed business dealings...

(45,404 posts)since the hotel was a great way to accept bribes in violation of the Emoluments clause in the constitution.
MyOwnPeace
(16,923 posts)is one that I've been screaming about for the past 4 years - and NOBODY (yes, RepubliQans, Dumbocrats, and the courts) seem to care a damned thing about it! It was such an obvious scam that a 5th grader could get an 'A' for his paper on a study of the 'Clause!'
There were SO many scams that he was running:
*We paid him to go to his places and paid for him to stay there!
*We paid for his secret service people to stay there - they received NO 'discount' - the profit was HIS!
*We paid security for 'Uday and Qusay' (Jr. and Gums) as they travelled the world working for the "TRUMP EMPIRE"
*We rented carts at his golf courses for the Secret Service to follow him.
There certainly are more - I just get SO pizzed thinking about them that I'm done!

(45,404 posts)Everyone knew about it. The media reported on foreign governments paying for rooms but not using them. Seems like plenty of clear evidence is there.
NJCher
(35,645 posts)but then I think: oh wait, this is chump change compared to what he's actually facing.
And I do hope that when they get the other stuff pinned down, they total up these frauds and reimburse the taxpayers for the grift.
No way should we taxpayers get left holding the bag for this scum.

(35,645 posts)he just says he can finance it himself but he always cons what he needs out of his sucker following.
Didn't we hear that he had something like 110 million from the money he was getting to finance his election fraud comeback? Did he go through all that, too?

(5,109 posts)trump stuck his nose in the proposed new fbi building & made sure they didn't move to a new building that supposed to be built ! afraid it would be renovated to a hotel right close to trump hotel ! same gal Murphy at that the gao was involved in that . that's why the deal blew up ! Washington post was all over that ! as usual people forget ! gao really could stick it in donny's short's & drop the lease on a conflict of interest exclusion .
