(23,267 posts)The outrage is building. It's gonna get ugly, but in the end I think this will all be reversed.

(16,273 posts)At least I really, really hope you're right!
The outrage is definitely going to be over the top this time. Everyone in this country with a pro-choice bone in their body is already pissed off over the last piece of Texas anti-abortion fuckery. This would be a hugely unpopular thing to do at any time, but to introduce a bill like this right now is just plain stupid!
Cut it out, Texas! Just PLEASE cut it the fuck OUT!!!!-

(24,287 posts)you have to ask, why is God/Nature the #1 abortion provider in this world? And if God says you will miscarry, should you enact laws against God's will?

(9,944 posts)... this man is deplorable. But, at least he's being honest. If they consider abortion to be the murder of a baby, and they are for capital punishment, then they would like to execute the woman and her doctor(s).

(22,911 posts)And we were concerned that "Defund the police" scared off some voters. The death penalty for abortion is not a concept very many Republicans running for office want to be associated with.

(8,543 posts)This bill sounds like a campaign ad:

There is zero chance of that being deemed constitutional (in the extremely unlikely event it became a law).

(25,126 posts)That session ended on May 30th, but it didn't even get a committee hearing.
We have weird people filing all sorts of weird bills in Texas, but many of them never see the light of day.
They know the bill won't go anywhere and they do it for publicity
It's just a weird thing about this place. Like Florida Man.
Kyle Biedermann's bill to secede never got a committee hearing. Everyone on DU was hoping it "would happen"...I knew it wouldn't.

(43,102 posts)then attempt to nationalise the outlawing of abortion, backed up by the threat of federal force.
That exact scenario was been part of many posts I have done about the undoing of the Union of the States by 2040 at the latest, perhaps earlier. I have went into more detail in many, and it is certainly not just abortion law dependent.
Too many people suffer from normalcy bias and assume the Union, the nation, the very constitutional superstructure is infallible, indestructible, I have even seen the descriptive (the height of hubris) eternal used.
The United States is so young, a blip in time. The average empire lasts, in the past 12,000 years of modern human history, 250 years or so. If you count the full implementation of the new federal government operating under the purview of the US Constitution as the starting point, then 250 years is up in March 4, 2039.
If I went back to September 2014 (I pick then for the coming viscous Red Wave in the 2014 midterms, that started the electoral descent), and told people the fresh hells that would transpire over over the next 7 years, they would call me insane, or at least some OTT conspiracy theorist. Normalcy bias is a strong force indeed.

(25,126 posts)Born in Mineola, Texas, Bryan Slaton is a proud East Texan with values and principles that resemble(represent) the great people of East Texas. These values were formed as he grew up regularly participating in church and family gatherings. Bryan attended Ouachita Baptist University, where he earned a double major in Youth Ministry / Speech Communication. He then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned a Masters of Divinity with Biblical Languages. He served in the ministry as a Youth and Family Minister for 13 years.
Continuing his education, Bryan graduated from The University of North Texas, where he earned a Bachelor degree in Business Administration Accounting. Bryan now works at his family-owned company, Slaton Financial Services. He understands what it takes to balance a budget and cut wasteful spending, no matter the scale.
He opposed taxes being raised and land being taken away from private citizens in order to build toll roads. Bryan Slaton is passionate to help the people in East Texas obtain and maintain a Government that they not only deserve but for which they are calling. Bryan and his wife, Sharmen, have been married for 3 years. They have a son, Maximus, and attend Fellowship Church in Royse City.

First term, crazy-ass guy.....
There were two special sessions, but they're also both over....
The only one left is redistricting. The state is a bit strict about special session agendas.
After redistricting, there will not be another session until 2023. The Texas lege meets for 140 days every two years. That's why crazy stuff gets filed. They know there isn't enough time to hear all of it. You should read the thousands upon thousands of crazy bills filed each regular session.

If abortion is "murder" then there must be murders. And if "murder" isn't a metaphor, then it's an allegation. We should be somewhat relieved that what the anti-choice movement has been promoting in private is now openly public.
