Pt is blind and in liver failure due to Ivermectin OD. MD informed him he does not qualify for a transplant. He broke down and begged us to save his life. Saying that he refused the vax bc he thought it was too risky. Teeth gnawing regret.
Asked us to share his story. #GetVaxxed

(41,976 posts)Im a Med-Surg RN and we gave ivermectin most recently for a maggot infection. My unit gets just a few of the Covid patients because we are a transplant unit. We have a dedicated unit and a dedicated ICU, or partially dedicated anyway. Need all the beds we can right now

(1,000 posts)But this is what an actual HIPPA violation would look like, anyone connected to patients care sharing his medical information for any purpose other than his immediate medical treatment. She cannot give out any potential identifying information.

(28,339 posts)Too much liability. If you want to help a patient share their story it has to be approved by the management, PR department, lawyers, ethicists, etc., etc., and so on.

(43,330 posts)It is the RW conspiratorial agitprop that has been around for ages, post WWII, now repackaged and disseminated with a nuclear-powered level boost via social media.
It is reflexive control and nonlinear warfare writ large, writ on a globalised scale of economy.
Pseudo-democratic rhetoric with submerged undemocratic intent, utilising the obliteration of objective truth as its tip of the spear.

The second link, about blindness, is in a lion not a human, but I also found another article about blindness in dogs, so it would seem that blindness in any mammal is not a surprise (blindness that's typically temporary -- but you do have to live long enough for recovery to take place).
There's probably a lot new being discovered right now about ivermectin overdose in humans, because it's terribly unlikely at any time in the past that so many humans were taking horse-sized doses of the stuff all at once.
Now, of course, anyone can make up and post any story on the internet. My point is that this story isn't particularly untrustworthy for any reason.

(18,672 posts)The anti-vaxxers think stories like this are part of the conspiracy, so they will continue to refuse the Covid vaccine and dose themselves with Ivermectin. I think it's long past time to hold the "media" outlets responsible for spreading disinformation responsible. They are helping people essentially commit suicide while creating undue stress and exhaustion for US healthcare workers. Any outlet willfully spreading disinformation causing harm to others should be heavily fined or open to mass lawsuits.

(45,432 posts)Conservatives trusted the government during Tuskegee experiments and CIA torture but won't trust a vaccine that is given free to everyone regardless of race or politics. RW douchebags like Trump, Pence, Abbott, and DeSantis have taken the shots.
If the COVID shots were some nefarious liberal plot, why would liberals be taking it?

(43,137 posts)Human survival was always based on adaptation, rapid response to threatening situations, embracing novelty to find the best solutions. These folks are so rigid-minded they just think they're brilliant, they're so narcissistic they believe fervently that fortune/God/Trump/equally paranoid Quack has revealed medical breakthrough only to them and theirs. I think it's more than just brainwashing, lots of people watch bad sources of information, they don't ALL go soft in the head. I'm thinking it's diet - junk food, fatty foods, additives that make the brain slow, lethargic. But even there I don't see how they could all be couch potatoes.
wnylib
(21,433 posts)excessive independence to the point of paranoid distrust of government and social norms. Also breeds a false sense of patriotism as being equivalent to anti government individualism. Add to that the current political polarization and the individualists feel obligated to oppose anything and everything that their political opponents endorse.
That explains, IMO, the specific politics of the pandemic in our times. But pandemics in the past have produced similar types of behavior. It seems that there are always people who react to pandemic crises with an inability to face reality. They embrace denial first, and when the reality of the illness sinks in, they turn to imaginative explanations, treatments, and cures that often spread the disease even more and doom them to die as victims.
That's what happened in the 1918 flu pandemic and in the Medieval Black Plague.
Disaster movies always show at least one person or group of people who act irrationally, disbelieving, or rebellious against calm, sensible leadership. I used to think that those depictions were melodramatic contrivances to push the plot along. Now I know that they are based on accurate perceptions of human nature that seem timeless.
