...back when I was a youngin' and dinosaurs roamed the Earth, female acquaintances of mine would abruptly go to Switzerland "on vacation" *wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, say no more* and come back all unpregnant.
Canada's border is open to fully vaccinated people.
I'm Canadian. Somebody sue me. Go for it.

What about women taking them if they think there is any chance they might have gotten pregnant?
I'm waaaay too old to know about the risks/advantages of that pill, so can somebody school me?
Girl goes on date...unplanned consensual sex.... takes pill... it's all good.
Yes... I know that would only cover part of the problem. I've read all the stuff at Guttmacher.

(81,220 posts)Well, I'd say it starts in a place like this. Where we're talking about it and kicking ideas around, debating and maybe even test-driving strategies.
This place is a THINK TANK. A research institution. AND a safe harbor and hang-out. If it does NOTHING else, it lets you know you're not alone in how you feel and how you view the way things are in this country now.
I'm here every day. It sustains me, consoles me, inspires me, and gives me hope.

(70,088 posts)there was a bus every saturday to a clinic just over the line.
it was money, but manageable. about $300, iirc. certainly has gone up, but the lack of insurance coverage, and funding behind pp and others have kept it pretty low, considering.
trouble is aftercare. the bus came back the same day. the 1 friend i had that did it bled pretty hard. she should have gotten care, but she just toughed it out.
there were 2 hospitals in town, but only 1 would have taken care of her. catholics,
orleans
(34,051 posts)but that doesn't always work and it can cost around $800
if it doesn't work you end up paying for the surgical procedure on top of the $800
(i know someone who had to get the surgical procedure b/c that combo of pills that makes up ru-486 did not work)
i would recommend women in texas just make appointments for planned parenthood or a private practice doctor in a blue state nearby. and, if possible, travel with a friend

If using RU-486. Go to a blue state and take the pills under a provider's supervision. Come back when all risk of complications are over.

Same for airline travel going to places that have abortion capabilities.
Then, another pg test upon return to see if you have a $10k bounty opportunity against the ticket seller.

(9,534 posts)Their only option would be to drive to another state where it's legal, and how do you just vanish for a couple of days or more if you have parents, school, work etc?
Canada of course is an option for those with a passport and the financial means to travel that far, but also it takes time to book air passage and that means delaying until even later.
LeftInTX
(25,272 posts)Unless, they bring their parents with them, even if abortion is legal for those under 18 where they practice.
So, if a minor wants an abortion, they will need to bring their parents.
You would be surprised at how many doctors will "refuse" services due to liability.

Thanks to everyone who's responded so far.
"Fly to Canada" was the first thing that occurred to me. Back in the day there were no other options except coat hangers, shady doctors and Dr. Mortgentaler. I hadn't thought through some of the other ramifications which have since been pointed out.
I haven't read the law (where is it??) but I'm wondering if they've considered...
-does the prosecutor have standing for out-of-State offenders?
-can out-of-State actors sue?
-if multiple people sue, who has priority?
-if Thoughtcrime has been opened up, are thete other opportunities? I've got some heavyduty coveting going on.
-if everybody starts sueing everybody, isn't this going to clog the courts *hint,hint...*?

(2,403 posts)We all know that shipping women off to (insert country) to get an abortion isnt a cure all. No shit people I think we all know that. But it CAN be part of a solution when things become dire. It CAN help some, and that is the point. We all donate to things. This is another thing that can be donated to if a network is set up as has been done in the past.
Very clearly we need a better wide spread solution
. Like I dont know
The fucking constitutional amendment in place. But for now can we continue farming ideas to help people where we can i stead of going for the easy shot and ripping people for making a suggestion?

(16,945 posts)a wildflower, can induce abortion. I never needed to know more, but held on to this knowledge. You can look for information online. I checked a few years ago, when another state passed another restrictive anti-women bill. The online information by and large says not to ingest this or other folk medicine.
So we can have legal, safe abortions. Or we can pass along other options.

I think they do not want a lot of us there. They think we are too crazy.
I believe there are many states still following Rowe v Wade and say abortion is legal. A quick plane ride from the GQP states to the Common sense states will work too.
