(11,725 posts)FYI, everything is political. Politics is about the activities around governing, setting up society, and the distribution of resources. Public Health is most certainly about politics just as the distribution of firefighting and law enforcement resources.
Now, if she means that COVID-19 is a partisan issue, then again, WHY would they have thought that? Where did they get their information?
As far as I know, ONE political party has created the environment where a public health issue was turned into a partisan issue. One Party, the Democratic party has been trying to disseminate the facts found by health experts. The other party, the Republican party, has been making the issue about affiliation, fomenting protests against wearing protective coverings to stop the spread and against vaccination.
It is sad that the husband died. The worst part of the situation is that it was almost completely preventable except that ONE SIDE, the Republicans, made it so that there was some kind of rational choice between following the advice of experts, and NOT.

(11,725 posts)There is a saying out there that I will butcher, "One death is tragic, 1000 deaths are a statistic". I think that it means that there is a level of death where people will not integrate it. For example, something like 100,000 people die every year from tobacco related illnesses and another 150,000 die every year from medical accidents including medication accidents.
Also, remember that right wing propaganda outlets have been sowing doubt about the levels of death being reported. People are saying that the vaccine is killing more people than the virus (even though the virus was killing people way before the vaccines were ready). They are seeing, on their "news" outlets, that the numbers are being "over reported" and the government is lying.
