Franklin Graham says there will continue to be hurricanes as long as gays are allowed to live on the east coast.
allowed to live.
Is he suggesting killing LGBTQs? Or just having people like him drive force them out to camps or someplace? Murderous fascism. Hitler would smile

(102,259 posts)I have absolutely detested Franklin Graham since he pushed himself on the stage of the Columbine Memorial and gave his Christofascist speech at what was SUPPOSED to be nondenominational, given the many faiths represented and the non-believers present as well.
It made me so mad and while he was treated with the civility that he did NOT deserve-- by those whose raw pain he only added to--I will NEVER forget.

(8,387 posts)No one on Twitter is able to source that quote.
Someone made it up and a bunch of people are simply repeating it.
Where did he say this? To whom? In what medium?

But whatever. Truth is so outdated.
But, hey, who needs critical thinking when someone famous forwards a bullshit quote.

(8,922 posts)While I think we all know who and what Franklin Graham is, we need to verify before spreading information, and hold one another accountable for doing so. I see OPs called out for this often and it needs to apply to everyone regardless of how much we "trust" a poster or how much the poster "trusts" their own sources. The bottom line is we don't want to be the spreaders of disinformation.
also strikes me as a pretty straightforward, honest person.
That does not mean that I should take anything you post at face value if an unsourced claim is made.
Given that this same quote has bounced around social media for years and never seems to include anything supporting the accusation... it's a stretch to assume that Eichenwald must have looked into it and validated the claim before repeating it - but just forgot to say so.

(5,450 posts)I will never forget what he did last year when he set up medical tents in Central Park to help with COVID and then turned around and tried to get LGBT folks to sign some sort of pledge to go straight before they would be allowed to receive care 😡.

Yes, his aid organization requires that its employees and volunteers believe in his religion and its nonsense. No, it does not require that of patients.

(11,806 posts)...of a morally corrupt person like Donald Trump. Or for their "aggressive indifference" for the poor and less privileged. Or for turning their backs on immigrants. Or for showing up in front of their flock wearing 5K Armani suits and swindling them out of their hard-earned money. I can name many others, but the God I believe in has got to be looking down at them, shaking his head, and saying "Really? Really. WTAF people? That's not what I meant."

(8,387 posts)There is no source for this quote which has bounced around with various attributions for years.
The OP does not care, since the operative principle is that it does not matter whether a bad thing about a disliked person is true or not, because it doesn't make a difference.
Once you cross that threshold, where the truth doesn't matter as long as the factoid in question suits you, it's smooth sailing.
