Slowly, but surely. I had two adult grandchildren who refused vaccination even though other family members were vulnerable. Today, I learned they both got their first shot! Why? Because they'd lose their jobs!!!!! Getting people in their pocketbooks is working. Yea!

(9,981 posts)I wish more doctors would do this. And more employers. Its time to reward backward thinking and political actions of refusing to get vaccinated with more consequences. And no religious exceptionsthis is a public health crisis causing death.

(6,857 posts)the story still reminds me of the dude whose wife got lung caner from his second hand smoke...but he didn't quit smoking...until the dog got lung cancer.
If I were one of those vulnerable family members ....

(5,812 posts)The wife is fully vaccinated. The husband is not. The husband is black. This couple are long time friends and in their early 50s -- I'm old enough to be the mother of either or both of them.
Well, husband and I had a long talk -- and he and I discussed the medical experiments that had been done on blacks and other persons of color. I told him he meant so much to me -- and their daughter is expecting their second grandbaby in a few months. We kept talking and...
Well, he is getting vaccinated!!!!!!!

I would refuse to see the little self-absorbed little shits, myself.

(32,634 posts)It has to be the employers that drive it - get the vaccine or you're laid off. Don't bother applying here for a job unless you're already vaccinated. There has to be insurance liability if nothing else. What company wants to take the risk of their employees infecting customers or even other employees?
I'm glad to hear that your grandchildren are doing it.

(1,000 posts)for something like a $200 fee for anti-vaxxers for their insurance and a weekly Covid test. The insurance charge is a great idea, imagine the tab for a hospital stay!! Talk about hitting the most vulnerable!

(266 posts)He's young, so he'll probably be fine. Un-vaccinated employees are required to be tested weekly now in our onsite clinic, and mask policies are being strictly enforced again. Our company's in house health clinic was also administering the vaccine. It was convenient, easy, and free.
I just don't understand it. In every other way he's an exceptional worker. He's motivated, smart and super nice.
But if you bring up Covid with him, he just starts parroting all of the conspiracy BS... and freedumb.

(205,294 posts)I have 2 friends who work there, one in the ER with psych patients and the other in the office - and they were both vaccinated last January, had to drive an hour downstate to a major hospital to get the Pfizer since the vaccine was not yet available locally - and anyone willing to do that was given a $100 bonus for their trouble.
But I know an older gentleman (mid 80s) who I see at local meetings. He said he wasn't getting vaccinated since his daughter who is a nurse wasn't getting it and he gets her medical advice from her! He said she'd sooner quit her job - well now she'll have no choice.

(10,163 posts)My stepdaughter and her husband (with 3 young girls) are rabid anti-vaxxers. They don't even get their girls their MMR.
The hubby makes good money at an on-line company. He doesn't do the computer stuff, he's more administrative. He is threatening to quit because they are going back into the office and require Covid-19 vaccines of all their in-office employees.
We'll see what happens......

Maybe insurance companies should require a person to get the Covid vaccine to get the health insurance a person is trying to buy.

(10,163 posts)It's easy for them to be anti-vaxxers their parents got the adults in that family all their shots. Except Covid of course.
It's only the children who are suffering from their stand. So far they have been lucky and have avoided all those diseases they have failed to vaccinate their kids for. So far they have had no consequences for their stupid ideas. I hope it's not the kids who will pay the price.

(1,654 posts)Back in the '80s we were visiting friends in Germany and the arguments for laws requiring seat belts were being initiated here. Our German friends said that wasn't a problem there because the insurance companies there denied coverage (or at least paid less) for accidents if you didn't use your seat belts. I don't remember if that was just the coverage for the medical portion or what, but the financial consequences were still a driver there.

Having said that, the thought that it was the threat of losing money as the deciding factor for any percentage of the population to do something so simple that will save the lives of the vast majority of the population (and was free to have done to boot) makes me want to puke. A lot.

(20,629 posts)here would be familiar with) refuses to mandate vaccination for employees. We were given a $100 incentive this past spring to get vaccinated (which didn't affect me one bit, but was still happy to take the money), but beyond that, they're not doing squat to promote the idea.
Just a couple of weeks ago they shared some statistics in an online meeting. The current vaccination rate amongst employees is only 33%. Atrocious, as far as I'm concerned. The North American HQ is based in a state with one of the worst rates in the country. I guess they're just totally terrified that too many people would be willing to leave the company over this, but given what kind of judgment these kinds of people clearly have, they are the ones who shouldn't be making crucial decisions affecting the future of this company.

(2,030 posts)for employers, public or private, to require that their employees be vaccinated. Even hospitals!
https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/montana-state-ban-vaccine-requirements-employees-79561146
Under a new law passed by the states Republican-controlled Legislature earlier this year, requiring vaccines as a condition for employment is deemed discrimination and a violation of the states human rights laws.
Personally, I feel like I'm being "discriminated against" for wanting to stay alive and healthy. And it scares me because this law will encourage anti-vaxxer crazies to move to Montana.
