Would you support a U.S. military coup?

...if the dark forces of fascism under trump and others were to gain power and in effect abolish the Constitution, would you support a governmental takeover by our military until we could restore the Constitution and our democracy?

...the patriots in our military take an oath to the Constitution which I assume they take very seriously...if civilian control of our government breaks down or fails who or what else could we depend upon?

...could a day of reckoning not be far off?

The military should never get involved in domestic problems. If a military coup happened, it’s very likely our president would be a general who wouldn’t leave office.

Seriously...? I think there are many many many NECESSARY details left unexpressed in your hypothetical.

So, I think it is impossible to offer an educated response. It isn't even clear we are all contemplating the SAME thing--the same set of facts--the same definition of a "coup."

If the Republicans manage to disable or neuter the forces of local law enforcement (à la January 6th) on a wide basis, I would be for exceptional use of the military to protect the land from enemies, domestic--assuming that they do indeed turn out to be purely domestic. It has just been discovered (or at least, just made public--probably known in intelligence circles for much longer) that the leaders of the recent Catalan separationist movement had made trips to Russia and meeting with financiers and shady Putin-connected political operatives. For the record, they deny it was for anything sinister, but then the Jan. 6th whackos say God made them do it, which I find to have a similar amount of credibility.

More details: https://www.rferl.org/a/catalan-separatists-russia/31442691.html

If there's any way Putin can fracture the EU more than it is, he will.

For that matter, I can't imagine his long-term goal for North America is any different.

The entire concept is that the military is subordinate to the civilian authority. They can neither support, or oppose, a civilian conversion of authority.

What they could "oppose" is illegal orders. It would take the SC or other government authorities to determine these problems.

Let’s just say I have had it up to my teeth with supposed liberals asking for liberals to be the ones to stick the shiv into the heart of our democratic republic.

This may sound hyperbolic, but the future of the country as a republic depends on not confusing the two in some false equivalency, even if Republican paramilitaries seize control of key buildings.
