She found out last Friday her surgery is being cancelled because the hospital is too full of COVID-19 patients.

has less a chance to contract it and has symptoms for a shorter time, so they are less likely to spread it.

Of course medical teams performing surgery should all be vaccinated.

2. Many hospitals in the Nashville area have been forced to cancel elective cases

Surgeries are being limited severely to shift staff around to critical areas of the hospital. This has been the situation for the past several weeks.

Pure anecdata, but I've heard of two people through my church congregation who had their surgeries canceled, one of them a cardiac procedure. She was told by the doctors to sit tight at home, and they'd try to get her re-scheduled as soon as possible. In the meantime, try not to stress about it.

I can't speak for the cardiac centers, but ICU space may be a factor in cancelations of heart procedures.

I don't know if this is standard, but I was told that "elective" is anything other than an emergency situation, so basically, if you aren't bleeding out, you're elective

… on an out-patient basis to tide her over until there is an operating room available. I have read there is good success with this procedure — and if nothing else this may hold off the worst effects of having to wait. Might be worth asking about.

Jesus Christ on a Trailer Hitch, we are entering another nightmare stage. All the best to your friend and her daughter.

Add to that the oxygen shortages everywhere and just cross your fingers that you don't get sick.

Last thing anyone needs is to catch Covid getting a non-urgent surgery.

Honestly, if it were to be canceled, I would be sort of relieved.
