My missing ballot.

Not much to say here. The USPS has declared me nonexistent. They returned my ballot to the Registrar, telling them I do not exist. I kid you not.

I will not defend the USPS. This is the last straw. My logistics are such that I may not be able to vote in the recall election. I am not sure what to do. I don't know what this means in terms of being on a list of eligible voters. I am pissed. I am pissed! And, they say they will take care of things for you, but then they don't.

The most important thing to me this month is getting my shot. I am hoping that one vote not cast will not hurt Newsom. But, I don't know what to do. They sent me an email saying that I can REREGISTER for voting. What does this mean in terms of my ability to vote on the 14th? If I reregister, will it take me off the list of voters on which I presume I am still accounted? I am not on any party's lists. I am "preferred not to state," or something like that. I thought for a long time that I had registered Independent, but I'm not that. If I reregister, will there be enough time for my name to make it back on the books?? This is California. Anyone got any advice on what I should do? I hate to be beaten, and I will vomit if Cali turns Red.

I hate the Post Office. Really, I don't need all this extra stress. DeJoy can shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I am going to get my shot this month, and I think that nothing can stop me. I have a plan. I'm ready. And, it has nothing to do with the post office.

And you can take up the other matter later... making sure you will be on any future list, etc.

Your mail is forwarded for a limited time. It is up to you to change your address. Only if you have moved. Much of the work is ours to do so things are right. My Postal Service is excellent even with Dejoy. He is not the first asshole we have had as Postmaster General.

I don't think they deliberately misdirected your ballot. There are so many ways for it to get messed up, it might even be the County Board of Elections in your local county.

My suggestion is to consider voting in person this once - just to make sure your vote gets counted. You'll have more time to look into the mailed ballot option after the recall voting is done. And hopefully Newsom will still be in office when it's over.

If it turns out you do need to re-register to vote, do it early and online. Request the mailed ballot for next year. When you register keep in mind that you'll be asked to show ID after you register, and they probably want a CA drivers license or a US Passport. Your voter registration needs to match your physical photo ID card in every way - same name, address, everything. If you have either one of those you're good to go. If you don't have either, you can still register and vote but they'll make it more complicated for you.

Good luck my friend!

https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ballot-status (there should be a number to call under the form if you click on your county)

I sent my ballot in and it was lost in the mail so I had to call several times and I was told different things so I emailed them as well and went back and forth until I got an answer that seemed to address my situation.

They sent out a second ballot and will discard one of the two if they get both. I received the second ballot today but it was sent on the 1st and I just received it so you may need to go to your local polling place.

I feel like I should know these things, but I just don't. I am having bouts of weakness and frequently feel like I can't make it, and I want to stay reclined. I feel decompensated, but I don't know why. I am determined not to fail, even if it means I have to take a taxi someplace. I have pretty good health habits, and haven't been around anyone at all, so I shouldn't have any exposure to Covid. Next week will be the first time I've been out in a long while. I want to vote!

I always thought it would be a big "jump in the trench" effort to save my country, but it's these doggone little things that are wearing me out. I have to be tougher. Thanks again for the instant response! I am going to try.

Who is "they" - the Post Office or the registrar's office? The Post Office does occasionally screw up - even before De Joy: we used to have a mail person who frequently mixed up streets. Registrar offices seem to vary as to their responsiveness - mine is particularly good, others not so much.

It is possible to do a same-day registration and cast a conditional ballot. If your county registrar doesn't offer any help check the SoS website for info on how to do this - and take it with you as a fallback.

Meanwhile get everyone you know who is eligible to vote in California to vote NO on the recall and return their ballots ASAP!

I renewed my DL and reregistered to vote online. This time, I registered as a Democrat, which I had been many years ago. I do not generally do politics, except that the last 4 years were unreal, and I do not want to live in a fascist country. So, I will find my way to the polls on the 14th. I'll take my mask and rollator, and snacks with water. I will be fine. I qualified for an extension for my DL earlier this year, so they should accept it as valid. I will have to wait 2-3 weeks before I'll receive a renewed DL in the mail. This should be long enough for me to visit the leader of the local PO for battle. I promise to be a lady and not swear. But, I will be insistent. I hope I don't collapse on their floor. I do look pretty good with my black double face mask. Sure didn't want to go in there, but the war must be won!

at either an early voting location or on election day. I forget if it is a provisional ballot or not, but even provisional ballots get counted. You can find locations listed here for in-person voting starting on or before September 4: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place.
