Just got back my hairdresser. We agreed a long time ago that neither one of us was ever going to be able to sway the other, so we just leave politics alone. But today he started on the supposed gizillions of dollars of equipment we gave the Taliban. We dealt with that, and I gave him the first day of the evacuation was chaotic, but when I asked (and I really want to know why NOBODY in the media has asked this) why, when Trump signed this agreement with the Taliban in March(?) of last year, why plans weren't started THEN to insure an orderly exit? Why did Steven Miller immediately get started on the plans to make the visa process even more complex? He claimed the Trump administration had a detail, organized withdrawal plan. He had everything totally planned out, and Biden didn't follow it. Total bullshit, of course, but do you guys have any idea where this one started?

(9,982 posts)I'd look at the cop/EMS right wing boards - that's where I see the most ignorant and outrageous claims originate from.

(14,559 posts)However, there was not $billions of equipment left. Any equipment under US control at the time of withdrawal was disabled to the point that it COULD NOT be used again. All the vehicles, helicopters, crew served weapons were disabled.
I was in charge of a laboratory set up in a semi-trailer and we had detailed instructions on how to destroy it should we be forced to leave it behind. I can assure you there would have been no test tube left intact.
What was captured from the Afghan 'army' will only last a short time. This stuff wears out fast and it's high maintenance so where they gonna' buy parts?
So wrong on point one.
On point two (the detailed plan), just ask to see a report on the 'plan'. Any information at all. Just something. Like, anything? Doesn't make sense to keep it secret when Trump could use it to beat the Dems up with it, right?

(3,056 posts)There was a statement from one of the folks in charge about how they disabled the equipment, including the use of a chemical accelerant that burns at hell levels (you probably know it...I can't remember the name). But as you observed, nothing really does any good. Crickets. Generally when he's cornered, he shrugs and pivots. I was kind of amazed that he didn't show me the picture of the guy "hanging" from the Blackhawk.

(9,291 posts)Trump wasnt going to allow one brown person to move to America. See the Kurds. He just knew not to start anything until after he was re-elected. He would have left all the Afghan people there.
Listen to Deep Stats Radio podcast, August 26th with Olivia Troye. She worked inside the White House for V.P. Pence.

(33,643 posts)I would say 'the only evidence of this supposed plan is that Trump, after the fact, claimed that he had a great one, and it would've been perfect. This is a guy who has literally told 1000's of documented LIES since 2016. Why would ANYONE believe anything he says? Why not release these supposed plans he came up with? It's not like it matters for national security at this point, right?'
