'Blatant' Oregon shoplifters walk out of Lowes with $2000 worth of electrical equipment

video here: https://www.facebook.com/1359390342/videos/826137151419495/

Video of shoplifters stealing thousands of dollars worth of electrical wires from a Lowe’s store in Oregon has angered local residents.

"It was so blatant, that’s what riled me up," Keizer, Oregon, resident Andrew Sullivan, who filmed the incident, told the Keizer Times. "They were just strolling through the parking lot, just riding the carts."

The incident unfolded in broad daylight on Aug 25, with the video showing two men pushing shopping carts loaded with electric wire walking out of the Lowe’s doors as two employees are helpless to stop them.

A Lowe’s employee standing at the door asked the men to show their receipt as they approached, but they kept moving. Another Lowe’s employee is then seen approaching the men in the video, to which the first employee said, " "Hey don’t do this. It’s not worth it."

"I think these guys have done it before because they seemed to have a good system. One guy with the car and two guys with the carts. They knew no one was going to touch them," said Sullivan, who also recorded the men loading a red Subaru with the merchandise.

Many commenters on the video expressed outrage and wondered if local police would investigate the situation. Lowe’s eventually reported the incident, and an investigation is ongoing, but Keizer Police Lieutenant Andrew Copeland noted that in Oregon, many jails aren’t taking offenders such as shoplifters, in order to cut back on their populations during COVID-19.

Ben Dugan Works for CVS. His Job Is Battling a $45 Billion Crime Spree.

Retailers are spending millions to combat organized rings that steal from their stores in bulk and peddle goods online, often on Amazon

Ben Dugan sat in an unmarked sedan in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood one day last September waiting for the CVS to be robbed.

He tracked a man entering the store and watched as the thief stuffed more than $1,000 of allergy medicine into a trash bag, walked out and did the same at two other nearby stores, before loading them into a waiting van, Mr. Dugan recalled.

People are stealing from every retailer.

Companies are worried about the safety of their customers and employees so shoplifters are not stopped.

The shoplifters know this.

Stores that suffer from this have to to calculate the losses into the prices that the rest of us have to pay, and that hits lower income people hardest. If the organized thieves get Covid, I do not give a rat’s ass. In plenty of instances, there are videos of cops stopping and even arresting guys who even have receipts for stuff they bought. So don’t tell me the cops don’t have time to arrest real thieves.

Find out where the product ended up, and arrest them there.
There's going to be a lot more stolen goods or illegal activities where these sorts of products end up. The way those guys were operating, this isn't the first time they did this -so whatever is going on, it's going to rise above petty theft.
This isn't a shoplifter stealing for himself, a family member, or for the thrill. There's a mass resale scam.

Conspiracy to steal, fencing and/or tax fraud.

Wouldn't be surprised if local police were either in on the scam, believing they were " making a point about how much y'all need us " by not going after shoplifting rings, or decided they were going to wait for the detectives to roll up the ringleaders.

It's not like they were uppity poor folks or POCs that just pissed a cop off by existing at that moment, so the cop was perfectly within his or her right to harass, beat, jail, or kill them for some vague felony level crime like non-compliance.

Consumers should have to place their receipt in front of an automated exit scanner that will
activate a gate to let them out. Or, just shoot them.

Even now, all they can do is ask to see your receipt.

You're not legally obligated to show it to them.

2k worth of electrical wire isn't worth selling on craigslist, but if one is cutting corners subbing on a construction site electrical install, it might be worth it if the business owner is scum to begin with.
That's a value of about a week's worth of work pulling cable and hook up.

Or that much cable is probably worth $300 at the recyclers in copper.

These guys looked professional, not homeless used by street gangs to get free supplies for swap meet scams.

burned off the insulation behind their house and then sold the copper wire to the scrap yard. These aren't homeless people down on their luck.
