I can't find anything being done about McCarthy and Greene openly threatening communication companies that comply with the investigation into January 6th.
I know our democracy is hurting, but are we that far gone that such threats get ignored? Why the hell aren't these two thugs being punished for such fascistic threats?

* I've also heard "weak" replaced with "corrupt," "beholden," "lazy," "indecisive," ... the list of smears, swipes and insults just goes on and on.

(3,240 posts)But there are a lot of others in Congress too, including republicans! There should be a general outcry stated as soon as the threats were made. It should be story one everywhere.

(10,429 posts)The list of republicon scumbags who have committed crimes, lied, stolen, grifted, cheated, threatened, intimidated, and just don't give a shit about the public is infinitely long.
The list of republicons who have faced serious consequences from that kind of behavior? It probably fits on a post-it note. Anyone paying attention in the last couple decades is inclined to expect them to get away with whatever they do simply because they usually do.
The poster states an inability to find out what is being done about brazen attempts to intimidate. That is the problem. It isn't automatically an insult. It's one of two things. Either nothing is being done, or the media is failing to publicize the actions or statements of whoever is doing something. That is the problem. Republicons laugh when we then attack each other instead of finding out which of those things is actually the case.
If it is the media failing to report, once again, that is a big problem.
Because it is this which should have our attention:
not fighting with each other.

(58,785 posts)of power don't allow swift and strong control of those misusing it to get more.
We're at war and have been all this century. Our enemy fights by winning elections that enable them to increasingly smash laws and norms and institutions, instill anti-democratic authoritarianism into government, and purge liberalism.
2016 enabled the far-right revolutionaries to make major advances, and the ignored war broke open. Though it seems most on the left, and nicer ones on the right, are still like Jews in Europe: it can't be happening because Americans just wouldn't do this. It can't happen here.
After 2018 and 2020, when we gained back some federal ground, the enemy turned to taking over state and local governments and preparing the electoral ground for a final push to take over the federal government officially in 2022 and 2024. That's where we are.
Bottom line is, their power has grown to the point that they are able to abuse it openly, with great public support and/or apathy.
Our people are battling for control of our nation in the streets of government. I feel pretty sure they'd be glad to shoot McCarthy in the head but waste little time fantasizing about it.
They're using all branches of government to defeat the RW takeover attempt, but our abilities are limited because the Republicans also have partial control of government and, as their kind of revolution always does, smash through laws meant to stop them at every opportunity. And they have many enormous power blocs outside government, including in the media, working against us.
So, no. The very real threats made at war by these viciously ruthless and punitive extremists are not being ignored. Everyone involved knows that if the right gets the power to carry them out they will.
