WHO: COVID-19 is here to stay

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/07/who-says-covid-is-here-to-stay-as-hopes-for-eradicating-the-virus-diminish.html

Covid-19 is likely “here to stay with us” as the virus continues to mutate in unvaccinated countries across the world and previous hopes of eradicating it diminish, global health officials said Tuesday.

“I think this virus is here to stay with us and it will evolve like influenza pandemic viruses, it will evolve to become one of the other viruses that affects us,” Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization’s Health Emergencies Program, said at a press briefing.

This will lower life expectancies world-wide and will require increased investment in health care to treat those who get sick. We will need more doctors, nurses and medical staff per-capita than we currently have.

Those who don't get their regular COVID vaccines will be at risk of serious illness and/or death.

The world will become a place of indoor mask requirements and increased remote working.

Except, apparently, to all the unmasked customers in Target this morning.

The thing is that we won't be in nightmare pandemic mode for the rest of eternity. They said that COVID will most likely become a seasonal illness like the flu.

But when? What season? We've been getting hit hard pretty much non-stop since it all started (although it seemed to be petering out some right before Delta became dominant)

I'm sure that researchers are working to figure out the pattern of this thing. If this thing is anything like 1918 each subsequent wave will get less deadlier, hopefully.

Life expectancy rates are going to drop, as will the population.

There is not going to be a season of Covid as it’s already been shown to spike year round.

that the virus could become less deadly and end up with death rates more like the flu. Of course it’s also possible it could become more lethal.

It became apparent about a year ago. I'm not surprised. There will be regular population decline from now on. The virus will be one of the top three causes of death for some time to come.

that can be given if someone gets a serious case of COVID and needs treatment so they don't die. If we had that there'd be no longer a need for a vaccine and we can all resume a normal life.

We still need them to minimize and control the spread.

Therapeutics are and always will be the backup plan, not the first line of treatment.
