Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has suffered a decline in his approval rating among voters in his home state, according to the figures in the latest WV MetroNews West Virginia Poll.
Manchin now enjoys 42 percent approval in West Virginia, compared with 37 percent of respondents who disapprove. This is a notable change compared with results in the same poll in October, 2020.
The poll comes as Democrats in the House and Senate are pushing ahead with President Joe Biden's $3.5 trillion infrastructure proposal, though Manchin has indicated he will not support that amount of spending.
The last WV MetroNews West Virginia Poll in October showed the Democratic senator with 44 percent approval from likely voters and 44 percent disapproval, meaning both his approval and disapproval have declined.

(24,412 posts)the other day. They talked about how there is a difference between "Moderate" Democrats like Klobuchar, and Centrists like Manchin and Sinema and seem to be saying that Manchin and Sinema are performative contrarians, basically. That podcast (from last week I think?) is worth listening to if you want to get their take on it. The Podcast is done by former Obama Speechwriter Jon Favareau (not to be confused with the actor/director)

(24,412 posts)but the idea is pretty much that Manchin and Sinema purposely find ways to disagree with the rest of the caucus.

(24,412 posts)I guess his constituents are, amazingly, starting to get tired of his antics too. And THEY matter more than anybody (theoretically)

So if hes not doing this for his constituents then WTF is he doing it for?

The same poll conducted a year ago has him at 44 approve and 44 disapprove...
A 42 is well within the margin and can't be considered as dropping. However, the 37% disapproval he not enjoys is 7 points lower than last year. Meaning in the past year his net approval went from 0 to +5.
If anything his approval should be seen as improving in that time, not the other way around.
I'm guess most people responding to this thread didn't read past the headline.

(30,613 posts)It's hard to figure out what kind of constituents would not want better infrastructure, better pay, better education, and various family support services.
