I wonder why the Soviet Union's Afghan government lasted longer?

Weve had a couple of people here today very upset and sad about leaving our afghan friends behind. I mean they cant articulate exactly who they mean, or if those people actually wanted to come to the US, but hey, it makes for good internet fodder I guess.
