Judge allows mask mandates to continue in Florida Public Schools--ruling against DeSantis.
Just announced on CNN, but they don't have a working link to the story yet on CNN.com

ORLANDO, Fla.
The Florida governor's executive order banning mask mandates at schools was back in court on Wednesday.
The governor is appealing a judge's ruling last month that said his order was unconstitutional.
DeSantis and his legal team are appealing an earlier ruling by a judge that gave school districts the ability to go against his order and impose mask mandates.
The judge decided on Wednesday that school districts will still have control over mask orders, while they wait on the appeal outcome.
Attorneys for the parents have also filed, so the school district can keep their authority to enforce masks in school until a further ruling is issued.
On edit: CNN's piece:
Florida judge allows mask mandates to continue in schools despite governor's appeal

Effective immediately, the state of Florida must stop enforcement of banning mask mandates -- which ends sanctions against several school districts who have implemented such mandates.
DeSantis had appealed Cooper's earlier ruling that that stated the governor overreached and did not have the authority to ban school districts from implementing mask mandates without a parent opt-out.
That appeal led to an immediate pause on mask mandates while a ruling was made. Thirteen Florida school districts have now implemented a mask mandate without a parent opt out, defying an earlier executive order by the governor.

(56,828 posts)they know that the overall death & infection rates will be blamed on Biden if they're bad, so it will help them in elections later this year, next year and beyond.

(2,541 posts)On President Biden but the blame will not last for any longer then it takes to blame him. The facts are not going to go away. So if their end game is simply the biggest body count they can achieve its not going to work. Those facts in both FL & TX clearly show the responsibility lays at the feet of the Governors of both states for the unforgivable negligence they have governed by. At this point both of them should be charged with negligent homicide.

Effective Immediately FL must stop enforcing ban on masking mandates: new ruling
the negatives are: stop
ban
Ban is no. A no on what? In this case, you'd have to be up to date on Florida politics to know.
What would be a good headline?
Here's one I wrote:
Judge Rules Florida Schools Can Require Maskwearing
Subhead: Ruling in Effect Until Courts Review Case
Here are the headlines at the links:
Judge rules that Florida schools can issue mask mandates while DeSantis' appeal plays out
Fairly clear, but clumsy and too long.
Florida judge allows school mask mandates to continue despite governor's appeal
This headline and the first one require the reader to know what "mandate" means (a lot of people don't know) and also one has to be current on what mandate.
DeathSentence has been throwing mandates around like candy at a kid's party.
Anyway, regardless of the headline, I'm just happy to hear the news. Enough with the death already, DeathSentence.

Some have so many negatives I cant understand what there trying to say.
Also, I notice articles that dont address the headline until many paragraphs down, which is why I prefer articles with comment sections, which are often better written and more informative than the actual article.

(1,910 posts)No way a governor can selectively order public schools to mandate masks, while private schools can protect their students. Local school boards control their districts. Desantis must be fought in court every step of the way. No way his no mask mandate rule is legal.

Superintendent was upset they weren't allowed to require vaccinations.

(9,958 posts)My guess is that these people were not vaccinates. The question is why. If you know you will be in contact with hundreds of potential virus spreaders, many of whom cannot yet be vaccinated, why would you not protect yourself with the vaccine. What has happened to common sense in this country?

(16,702 posts)an Order issued by a "Governor" to PREVENT people from wearing a simple mask which is proven to PREVENT (or at least minimize) getting infected during a fucking global pandemic. This is so sociopathic I really wonder where we are going to end up. And those who have paid attention know full well, who ultimately brought this sociopathy on us all.
