(86,579 posts)It's the last week, some people don't like to vote early for some reason. I usually have my mind made up by the time I get my ballot.
Good to see.

(50,912 posts)This is what I sent to a California legislator yesterday.
I suggest that it needs serious revision. The 12% threshold is much too low and lacks proper representation. I would encourage 30% of the total votes that voted in the last election for the office signing the petition. Only those that voted in that election. If they didn't vote in the last election they don't get to sign the petition. If they weren't registered to vote for that election they don't get to sign the petition.
The 30% threshold should also be required in every county. It would prevent a concentration in pocket areas for the signatures on the petition.
The current 12% threshold would amount to less than 7% of the current registered voters. Using the 30% threshold would amount to 16.9% if used of all registered voters. It is not the best but would be more reflective of the will of the people on their assessment of California government than the current system. And reduce the cost of government in California.

(957 posts)If the Governor is recalled, fine. Then the Lt. Governor becomes governor, just like the cases where the Governor perishes or resigns while in office.

Barring any crazy, of course.

(13,040 posts)Polls released Wednesday by Suffolk University and YouGov show double-digit leads for Newsom on question one (Should Gavin Newsom be recalled?).
The Suffolk University poll found 58% of those surveyed plan to vote "no" while 41% said they would vote "yes," and the YouGov poll found 56% of people intended to vote "no" while 44% plan to vote "yes."

(6,390 posts)When you have to get a judge to extend the signature time to get what you want...its over.
National media was making a mountain out of a mole hill. But even they couldn't "jazz" this up and its being ignored mostly.
And I agree, increase the threshold on the signatures and end the second election and install the Lt. Governor, have another election for the Lt. Governor. The recall idea is a good idea, you can get a bad apple at times, but its also very poorly implemented and needs serious revision.

(16,950 posts)office that our ballots were received and counted!
But this will become a permanent maneuver if they dont change things. Great posts in this thread about how to head this crap off. This recall was started before Covid with fairly generic gripes from the GOP peanut gallery. It looks like theyll use this to tarnish up-and-coming Democrats. Now theyve muddied Newsom.
