Just ranting at my husband who justified it because "It's on the news."
Damn! Even in my household.
Maybe I drank too much wine too quickly - but really.
Who the fuck cares about Britney Spears?
BTW, I'm usually more demure in my language, but really???

Demsrule86
(68,352 posts)that medicine is not appropriate for what she has. Dear old Dad couldn't get rid of the guardianship fast enough when he realized the new lawyer was going to audit his handling of her money. I expect he was stealing her money and lived very well off her hard work...and the woman who helped him is in trouble too I expect. I hope they both go to jail. Brittany wasn't even allowed to remove an IUD. She is a grown woman and should choose how she lives her life. I have never heard of any man living under this sort of thing...shades of when the Kennedy daughter was given a lobotomy because she was allegedly promiscuous.

(15,777 posts)Is right in front of us. If it were Sally Jones no one would pay attention but Ms Spears is an international woman fighting for her rights. This brings attention to the issue n we should care about her and all the Sally Jones we dont hear about. Being subservient while others take her earnings is wrong and she wants her life back. I am not a fan of her music but Im sympathetic.

Mossfern
(2,375 posts)I'm well acquainted with having a close relationship with a person with mental health issues - who happened to be a male. No conservatorship for him. I understand the issue, but why does coverage of this only become important because it involves a celebrity?

(32,990 posts)and I'm not particularly a fan of jailbait pop. I do respect her talent.
Her entire life has been controlled by others for their profit. It's hard to see the Conservatorship as anything other than exploitation. She had a nervous breakdown because the Paparazzi were hounding her relentlessly; she wasn't "crazy". The details of the control exercised over her life are mortifying. This is an adult woman with children.

(2,375 posts)I care about the issue, but I get annoyed that issues that have been going on for such a long time are only mentioned in a sensational way when a celebrity is involved, ignoring the fact that other (non celebrities) have been historically suffering from such oppression.
Most people will watch and gawk at the news, say "how horrible" for whatever celebrity, forgetting that there are so many other people with the same issue. And then.....and then.... they'll do absolutely nothing about it, but feel righteous because they said "how horrible."
Treefrog

(2,375 posts)I did explain that in my OP.
Rage at my clueless spouse I brought here (sorry about that).
Can't stand the culture of celebrity and arm chair warriors who don't get off their tushes to actually do anything.
Actually my mother did something similar to my sister in her will - she gave control of my sister's share of her Trust to my brother because my mom didn't think that my sister was capable of managing it - the next in line for *her* trust was me - the youngest.
I know it's small potatoes compared to Britney, but the concept is the same.
After months of family fights, my sister got control of her share, but so much money was wasted on attorney fees.

I do wonder what kind of precedent this will create. Her father may certainly have been overbearing on the conservatorship and should probably be reviewed. But out of the blue when I was bored, I clicked on an article about it. She wants to end it without a mental health evaluation and have a choice on taking her meds. That's really bad voodoo.
We already know how bad she can spiral out of control and we will see it again if there are no guardrails...or worse. Her father did a 180 I've read, probably to force an evaluation by the courts. That tells me something. And yes, maybe he should no longer be in charge, but, is she capable? A professional needs to answer that.
As for precedent, how this turns out in the end will effect all future judgements due to the high profile....and it will probably not be the right one.
LeftInTX
(24,554 posts)She seems to have trouble putting her eye makeup on the right way and her hair is weird...stuff like that.....
It makes me worry about her future. I personally liked her and my daughter bought her CDs back in the way.
