Canada May Soon Repeal Its Discriminatory Gay Blood Ban
Canada could soon become the latest country to repeal its discriminatory bans on gay and bisexual men donating blood.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a Friday press conference that he is very, very hopeful that Canadas current restrictions on queer male blood donors will be lifted shortly, according to the Canadian news network Global News. Currently, the country requires men who have sex with men (MSM) to refrain from sexual contact for three months prior to giving blood.
We expect Canadian Blood Services to announce soon that the MSM blood ban will be lifted, Trudeau said. It is something that we are continuing to work on, it's something that we will ensure happens.
Until 2013, Canada banned all gay and bisexual men from donating blood under a policy dating back to the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Eight years ago, CBS permitted queer men to be part of the donor pool for the first time but under severe restrictions, mandating a five-year period of celibacy prior to donation. That dictate still barred the vast majority of gay and bisexual men from giving blood.

The word queer is used in the article. It's not my words.
