never in history' been a leader who's been able to do soWhite House press secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday dismissed Gov. Greg Abbott's vow to "eliminate all rapists" amid criticism of Texas' new law that bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy with no exceptions for rape or incest.
"If Governor Abbott has a means of eliminating all rapists or all rape from the United States, then there'd be bipartisan support for that," Psaki told reporters during a White House press conference. But "there has never in history of the country and the world been any leader who's ever been able to eliminate rape, eliminate rapists from our streets."
Psaki reacted to comments Abbott made on Tuesday in Texas, when he was asked by a reporter: "Why force a rape or incest victim to carry a pregnancy to term?"
The governor responded that rape victims are given "at least six weeks" to get an abortion and pledged that "Texas will work tirelessly to make sure that we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas by aggressively going out and arresting them and prosecuting them and getting them off the streets."

(2,343 posts)That, and we have a bunch of religious nutjobs, hillbillies, and domestic terrorists. The state is too big and has too many sparsely populated areas. Oh, and don't forget the disgusting Texas a&m "university".

(7,566 posts)to realize that a rapist isn't a rapist until they rape a woman? Damage done.

(2,191 posts)Seriously do we really think that Abbot is going to go after young Republican frat boys that really, really like beer? It's just a lie. Conservative judges have always said they were strong on crime but when the son of a wealthy conservative is up on rape charges the argument always changes to not wanting to ruin a young boy's life. If Abbot really went after rapists, he would lose all conservative support in a week.

(22,911 posts)That's how long he has been Governor. If he has the ability to "eliminate all rapists" now, why the hell did he allow rape to go on this long rather than stopping it when he first took office?
