It seems apparent that the old phrase "not enough common sense to come in out of the rain" has had its day - because we as a society used to count on something that apparently no longer exists: common sense.
Common sense was that thing most people relied on when their fellow citizens had been lied to, because we believed that coming in out of the rain didn't require an explanation more complicated than seeking shelter in a downpour.
We relied on common sense eventually kicking-in when anti-vaxxers noticed that it was the unvaccinated that were flooding our hospitals. We relied on common sense taking hold when anti-maskers insisted that their unmasked children be sent back to school - and their schools had to shut down as the virus spread as a result.
Where are we as a nation when common sense is no longer operative - when citizens stand proudly in a rainstorm while insisting that water isn't really wet, but is just another politically-driven hoax meant to make you believe that it is?
When common sense - that thing that tells you not to believe in anything that is not grounded in actual reality - becomes debatable, the Stupid win.
Don't let them. A nation ruled by the opinions of idiots devoid of common sense is a nation lost.

Their political bag men obey that manufactured consensus or get publicly purged like Cheney, Kinzinger, and dirty donnie's CPAC hit list of fifteen others.
Would this trump enemies list show common sense about HR1?
Or is their stupidity only as right as a broken clock.

Sadly watching my own cynicism grow by leaps and bounds.

(2,541 posts)That has been taking place over the last few decades (the 90s is when I remember it starting) to a more politically correct society is where I place most of the blame for this.
Certainly as time goes by and society becomes more diverse and attuned to that diversity there are words, terms, or phrases that need to dropped from active status. I have no disagreement with that but the pendulum has swung so far now that in order to not offend anyone people with simply wrong opinions or point of views are treated as legitimate concerns that should be respected when just a few years earlier that opinion or POV would have been rightly dismissed and laughed at.
Todays anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, stop the steal people are no different then a flat earth person and should have been shut down by the experts and MSM as soon as they started popping up. We would not put a person who thinks the Earth is flat in a seat at the NASA table to save the planet from a comet impact when their idea would be to just turn Earth so the thin profile is facing the comet and it will fly right by. Yet that is what we have done.
Just recently a Congressional Rep. in a Zoom meeting on temperature rise asked the people from the Forestry Service and BLM is there was anyway they could change the Earth or the Moons orbits to reduce temperature rise
.?!? This guy is in congress and we are all very familiar with the guy who suggested injecting disinfectants. We need to claw back that space the stupid as rightly referenced above occupy right now.
Unfortunately this has been allowed to go on for so long it is going to be very difficult to do but we must or we will be a lost nation.

Not necessarily a precursor test, but a launch community.
