My nephew's wife just passed from complications of covid pneumonia...

Last edited Thu Sep 9, 2021, 10:18 AM - Edit history (1)

we weren't close, so the emotional scars are shallow, but still.

At first, from what my brother (not the nephew's father, another one) told me, I got the impression the reason they didn't get vaxxed was because they were "too busy" and just neglected to. But upon further conversation I guess they were full on anti-vaxxers. It's all so pointless.

I guess my nephew got sick, too, but it was one of the managable cases and I guess he has recovered. His wife, with more medical complications, went to the hospital a couple of weeks ago and was on a ventilator for a while. Apparently, somewhere in there she was oxygen deprived for 10 minutes or so and she came up brain dead. They kept her alive for a while, but with no brain activity they pulled the plug a day or so ago.

So pointless and unneccessary. This is the closest it has hit to me, but I find myself not feeling a lot of sympathy or even empathy. As I said, we weren't close.

My nephew's wife is a statistic. A sad, unneccessary statistic.

I blame Facebook for this mess we're in now. 10 years of largely unchecked anti-vaccine propaganda and far right social media brainwashing got us here.

Amazing that so far no one in our family or in laws has either contracted COvid or died from it.
I am worried about a great niece. Her ignorant boyfriend is against vaccinations. I told her to stay away from my sister (her grandma) and face the consequences.
I reminded her that her great great grandfathers and their siblings were college graduates with degrees in the sciences. The stupid burns.

people could have imagined before that they would someday behave as they are. We were all raised to think of normal and appropriate, of who we are, as very different from this.

In the future, when this era has passed, perhaps she'll be remembered with more regret.

RIP.

but they were both on Facebook, so the possibilities are obvious. I don't remember a lot of anti-vax posting from them, mostly just personal stuff, but where they went...I don't really know.

appreciated for her intelligence and good sense has become anti-vax. She was hinting at it and the lies used to support it to my husband. It feels like a loss because it is.

I feel the same way. I’ve given up on sympathy for the believers in the “Big Denial.”

For me it’s reached the point that whenever I hear about someone’s “belief”, I go absolutely COLD.

He, for some reason, chose to take advise from his raving lunatic sister and never got vaccinated. Thankfully my wife's sister did get vaccinated.

He started feeling ill on a Thursday, went to the hospital the following Tuesday, and was dead the next day. My wife's sister tested positive but never developed any symptoms, thanks to being vaccinated.

I don't have a ton of sympathy for those who chose to ignore sound medical advice, but sadly once the inevitable happens their family is left to clean up the mess.

we can't educate the willfully ignorant. The deeper sadness with this is how many others they infect through their ignorance/obstinance.

I went to my dentist this morning and as I was leaving I asked the receptionist if everyone there is well. She told me one of the receptionists has covid and has been in the hospital for about two weeks. She's on a ventilator and is not expected to live. I asked her if the woman talked about the vaccine before she got sick and was told the woman said, "you'll be sorry you got that shot."

I bet now she's sorry she didn't get it (except I guess she's unconscious).

And he will get patients on his ward that want to debate that they don't really have C-19 w/him
and all he will do is how them their low O2 readings, sometimes they keep going down hill
then they get shipped to the ICU, where they get intubated, and in most cases they then die.

Sorry you have to deal with the fallout of being stupid.
