Arkansas researchers find possible cause of long-lasting COVID-19 symptoms

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A team of UAMS researchers have identified a possible cause for long-lasting symptoms for COVID-19 patients, which are commonly known as long-haulers.

According to the findings, there is an antibody that appears weeks after the initial infection and "attacks and disrupts a key regulator of the immune system."

Researchers and scientists have been trying to understand the cause of COVID-19 patients experiencing symptoms for longer. Around 30% of patients with the virus deal with "lingering fatigue, brain fog and shortness of breath."

“Everything that we’ve found is consistent with this antibody as the instigator of long COVID, so it’s an exciting development that merits further study,” said John Arthur, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chief of the Division of Nephrology at the UAMS College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine.

Chronic fatigue often occurs after someone has had a virus, like the flu. Such a debilitating condition for those who suffer from Chronic fatigue! I hope whatever they uncover about long haul COVID might help solve the mystery to chronic fatigue.

Chronic, debilitating fatigue is such a huge factor in both of those diseases. My daughter is a long-hauler. Recently moved up here from ARK. She's got my same fibro/lupus symptoms. I'm going to be keeping my eye on this study.

You know when a cure is found for some malady it gets high mention in the press, then buried. Because only richies intend to afford it.

like pharmaceutical companies, we'll never get wind of it. Unless they come up with some extremely expensive medicine to "cure" that specific malady, that is. Then we'll see do many commercials about it you'll want to throw a brick through your TV.

Years ago I asked one of my students, a Nigerian, to tell his fellow seniors what a year of high school cost in Nigeria; when he said $14,000, they gasped. That was fifteen years ago.

I bring this up because Venezuela, Nigeria, everywhere corporations run government kills off everything human -- institutions, constitutions, food, you name it. When government runs corporations, there is peace, prosperity and stability.

The point is that the liberal wing of Democrats have been fending off getting to the point where, once corporations have control over health and human services, they say, "pay up or die." That was Alan Grayson's (FL Democrat) big reveal about the Republican health care plan years ago. It's what Bernie's out on the stump reminding red state voters of right now.

Which is why Biden's foot in the door of negotiating Big Pharma pricing will open up other cost savings areas that have come with both Medicare and the ACA but aren't available to the rest of the population. We gotta keep our eye on where Biden's looking.

I have several family members who don't want to get the vaccine due to fear of ADE. But I've been wondering if the virus itself can also cause ADE. I admittedly have very primitive knowledge of this - amazingly, the family members who are opposed to the current vaccines have way more knowledge and understanding of science than I do, which is why it is hard to argue with them about it.

ADE supercharges the virus to infect. This attacks an enzyme that is part of the immune system. This is more like an autoimmune reaction.

While the anti vax whiners complain about freedom but do nothing, we have real scientists who care about their fellow man doing research to find treatments or cures for this horrible long COVID.

That’s what it is all about - working together for the common good.

Thanks for sharing this hopeful news!!
