Moderna announced on Thursday that it had begun development of a potential vaccine that combines a COVID-19 booster and seasonal flu shot.
Today we are announcing the first step in our novel respiratory vaccine program with the development of a single dose vaccine that combines a booster against COVID-19 and a booster against flu," Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said in the press release. Bancel previously told CNBC in April that he hopes to have a booster shot ready and available by the fall.
After Moderna announced its plans to produce a combination shot, its market shares rose by more than six percent.
At the start of September, Moderna announced that it had submitted a request to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of a booster shot of its COVID-19 vaccine administered six months after a patient receives a second dose of its two-shot regimen.

(149,588 posts)I mentioned to the pharmacist that it sure would be nice to be able to get a combo shot that would combine both the flu shot and the vaccine booster!
She agreed.

(2,109 posts)About a week ago, what do ya thinks gonna happen after our booster shots? And I told her, something in my gut says that will be doing COVID shots every year just like our flu shots . My issue with that is I think it make anti vaxxers take it even less seriously.

(145,130 posts)I had an antibody test and had such a low reading that two of my doctors told me to get a Modena booster. The CDC allows for boosters if you ate immunocompromised. Two of my doctors concurred that I qualified for a Moderna booster. This was evidently the same shot that I got in January and February
I understand that Moderna is looking at a lower dose booster but the CDC has not approved such booster. The CDC has approved third shots or boosters for immunocompromised patients. I have my vaccine card with three stickers and my arm was really sore yesterday.

(317 posts)Got flu shot last week & asked if I wanted Pfizer booster too. I scheduled it for next week to make sure I wasn't blasted out of my socks. The flu shot was an extra juice one for the elderly and it was the first time I got sick from a flu shot😷🙄

(989 posts)but I guess I'll be waiting until this combination shot rolls out. Two birds with one stone, fewer trips...what's not to like?
Flu covid combo is in development and hasn't been approved yet. It's not going to be available this flu season.
