BREAKING: Sensata temporarily closes plant in response to tonights ED Show broadcast
Steve Frank
4:10 pm on 10/19/2012
Bainport.com reports that in response to tonights live broadcast of The Ed Show, Sensata has sent workers home (with pay) and closed the plant for the entire weekend, barricading the entrances and telling second shift workers not to report.
170 Sensata Technologies workers are losing their jobs in December to China thanks to the corporate bullies at Mitt Romneys Bain Capital were reportedly told the plant will resume operations on Monday.
An incredibly clear expression of the needless fear coming from Sensata about the worker movement for a just severance package, said Bainport.com, a website organized by workers at Bain Capital-owned Sensata, a car sensor manufacturing company in Freeport, Illinois. Mitt must be getting ready to pick up the phone to call his friends at Bain Capital Please Make It Stop. Do it, Mitt.
Romneys campaign says hes no longer responsible for Bains management decisions. However, The New York Times reports its possible for Romney to profit from the outsourcing because he still owns eight million dollars worth of Bain funds. -snip-

(61,695 posts)or create another source for these sensors?
I'd love to watch Sensata go belly-up in China because no one will buy their parts.

The Romney Economy Part 2: Sensata shuts down plant in panic!
by David Pinar on Oct. 19, 2012, under Pol. & Govt.
The Sensata plant at Freeport Illinois shut down early today, closing the plant for the entire weekend, barricading the entrances and telling 2nd shift workers not to report. Theyre doing this out of panic. What are they afraid of? -snip-
Rest of story at link hits on just what your saying ...

(11,481 posts)the sensors from the workers themselves at the Illinois plant? All it would take would be the contract and the workers could buy the equiptment to make the sensors. And since Bain wouldn't be taking it's massive profit (the co-op could be set up as a no profit, just expenses including of course worker's wages), they would probably be cheaper than they would be even buying from China.

(19,429 posts)Honeywell sold their automotive sensors product line to Sensata, and the deal closed this summer.
The operation in Illinois is clearly temporary, since the sensor production is not even in its own plant.
Does anyone know what exactly they make there? The plant is a very old Honeywell operation, which first made microswitches.

(6,823 posts)(Arrests happened on Wednesday, quick video at link below)
We turn now to Freeport, Illinois, where more people have been arrested protesting plans by Mitt Romneys former company, Bain Capital, to shut the Sensata Technologies plant and move operations to China a loss of 170 American jobs. On Wednesday, six people were arrested in the lobby of the plant during a sit-in demanding full severance pay for those who will lose their jobs. Last month, Sensata workers set up an encampment called "Bainport" across the street from the facility to protest the companys plan to close the plant. Last week, three protesters were arrested for blocking the path of trucks leaving the plant in an effort to stop the removal of equipment from their workplace. To find out more about the "Bainport" protest, we speak with Tom Gaulrapp, who has worked at the Sensata Technologies plant for 33 years. His last day of work at Sensata is November 5, one day before the election. The protesters have invited Romney to visit "Bainport" to address their situation. [includes rush transcript]
