Best analogy on vaccinations I've seen yet

http://eugeneweekly.com/2021/09/09/what-if-this-were-world-war-ii/

Excerpt:

To vaxx or not to vaxx? There is no question.

My grandmother used to share stories of blackout drills in the 1940s. Households up and down the West Coast would voluntarily extinguish their lights, cover their windows, and even turn off appliances by 11 pm. These proactive measures helped ensure entire cities would not be visible in the event of an enemy air attack.

Imagine the blowback if a neighbor had ranted about their “rights,” and kept their lights on well into the night. Such an action would put not only their household, but the entire community at risk.

End excerpt.

(my mother’s cousin was killed by the sabotaging of a gas hot water heater on an Army base), but disobeying blackout rules was not widespread.

The internal saboteurs.

And the German ships and subs off of both coasts.

It was about shipping. Submarines could spot ships at night as they sailed up the coast and were silhouetted by the lights on shore.

so they probably would have encouraged people to not be sheep and resist the blackouts in favor of whiteouts or some other such nonsense. Bright Lights Matter!

do their part to help and consider the inconvenience minimal because to help your country and your neighbor is patriotic.

At least it was.

JFK started the Peace Corps and also wanted to create Vista, a dream which LBJ fulfilled. I’ve often wondered if another such program was created today would people flock to join?

In the era of optics, social media, selfie’s, and reality TV I think not. Not after TFG who made selfishness ok. Greed really is good.

Not everything from the good old days was good and our fond memories tend to forget the bad things but I feel we have permanently lost a part of our souls as a country and I don’t know how we can get it back.
