(52,196 posts)Our "group of individuals" who insist on spreading misinformation and disinformation need exactly that kind of smackdown.
Repeatedly.
Good heavens! He let loose. I would love to see ANYONE in our country do that to Hannity or Carlson or that "group of individuals".

(53,764 posts)winger media. I didn't cough. I didn't stutter, no sarcasm gif, just plain English. You need to get a grip on yourself and stop reading imaginary things into a clear statement that aren't there.
I like what Trudeau did.

(48,988 posts)I was really hopeful you weren't as unaware as it now seems you are. I worded it that you were trying to make some kind of joke to give you a chance to recover.
You need to get a bit of basic knowledge about the USA's best friend and not assume that Canada is kind of America-lite. Canadians find it really disrespectful when Americans assume Canada operates like the US, the way your post assumed. I don't think it was your intention to be arrogant; rather it seems your ignorance has tripped you up.
Canada has a parliamentary system with a Prime Minister. This campaign is taking 34 days. It was called at Trudeau's choosing two years after the last election, though he could have gone the customary four years (less likely because he has a minority government) and could be as much as five years.

Very different from the USA. You need to know these things.
I was polite, gave a clue in the post title, giving you some room to realize your error and affording you an excuse to cover it up if you took it. I did not refer to you personally; only to your words. But you came back with a personal slam about "need to get a grip on yourself".
So.

(53,764 posts)forgot Canada has a PM instead of a president. I liked how he came down on right wing media. Nothing more.
See Justice Matters' Post 50...just a simple, friendly reminder. That's how it's done. No need for a long-winded, snarky lecture.
Bernardo de La Paz
(48,988 posts)What part of the reminder
did you not understand? What part of that did not remind that Canada has a PM and not a President? Did you stumble over the abbreviation "fr" for "from"?
After you got the reminder you doubled down 8 hours later. There was no need for that. So you had to have it explained to you.
Making that mistake twice in 8 hours is not temporarily forgetting. Especially after a reminder. In less than 96 characters.
You could have looked to where YOU made the MISTAKE and simply acknowledged it. That's how it's done.
But you had to double down. How silly.
brush
(53,764 posts)A simple, clear, straight-to-the-point reminder such as, "Canada has a PM not a president" was all that was needed. No obscure hint about a "US model" and a "flat joke not appreciated." Who knows what all that means?
And why would I joke about Canada?

(48,988 posts)I see it as a joint realization, or simultaneous, that there is little to be gained by pandering to the anti-vaxers and anti-maskers. Especially now that vax rates are above 75% in Canada, I think, and above 63% in the US with broad support for vax certification apps.
Biden's tone in his announcement of vax mandates is an inspiration to leaders like Trudeau. Plus everybody with staffs is tuned in to lots of key players. Both leaders are through with anti-science boat anchors (ASBAs).
So the goodness flows both ways.

(10,828 posts)And more dedicated, democratic leaders, real leaders around the world need to be calling out this endless spew of propaganda that's adding to needless suffering and death from this pandemic. We have the virus to deal with, not an easy task. But we also have the deliberate poisoning of minds from reckless hacks who have the nerve to call themselves journalists. They're not journalists; they're vampires.
to Trudeau for calling out the BS.

"Rebel News was founded in 2015 by a pair of castaways from the failed conservative Sun News Network, including Trump-supporting, libel-case losing Ezra Levant. The real reporters (their words) whove contributed include Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes, and Faith Goldy, who was fired after providing coverage of the 2017 Charlottesville Rally that was too polarizing even for them."

They're the propaganda arm of the GQP fascists, and should be taken off the air. They serve no purpose other than sowing discord, and pitting one American against another.

(14,173 posts)Do Americans even know this is happening? There is a big backlash against him from the freedumb crowds up here that are stoked on by the MAGATs down there. And extremist RW media. He may not win a majority. He may not win at all.
I always marvel at the difference in how long the US federal election is compared to ours. It seems it never stops there. On top of that you have another one, minus the Presidential vote, every other two years.
Justin called it a month ago. Out of the blue. No build up. Then the time limit is six weeks. Six weeks! So only a couple more or so and its all over for another 4 years.
I seriously don't know how you guys handle it with such a long drawn out affair down there. So much more time for misinformation outlets like Rebel News that this "journalist" was from, to stir up CPs and anger.
Trudeau is not my first choice. But I may vote for him strategically to keep out a Conservative.
Conservatives are like the old school Republicans, but with a new surge of extremist alt fact zombies in their base, which is only growing as our "dictator" Trudeau implements mandates.
Liberals are like the old school Democratic Party. Establishment corporatist supporting, but with an ear for social liberties like abortion and gay marriage. And of course support science and medical experts on COVID.
I support the New Democratic Party, who are like the Progressive wing of the Democratic Party there. They mirror much of what The Squad, and Sanders would want. Like a Green New Deal and taking more from corporate Canada and giving more to those who need it. Trudeau and the Liberals always make promises from the left, sound as much as they can as the NDP, and so pilfer voters from them, and then swing right when in power. Much like Democrats down there use Sanders popularity and his popular proposals like M4A to entice voters from the left, and then put all that on the back burner once in office.

(48,988 posts)My memory is a bit murky, but he has spoken more or less forcefully on the Conservative leader's two-faced approach on gun control listings, on a promise to ensure that abortion is available in every province to every woman who wants one (New Brunswick is playing games), and on the Conservatives wishy-washy commitment to climate change mitigation.
Just how strident on one or another, I'm not sure, but I noted that tone of voice, which is confident, forceful, organized and pointed, on more than one occasion in the last week of the campaign.
Really pleased to see it as it is better than his schoolmarm tone that sounds as if he is addressing a fifth grade class (he has been a drama teacher in the past).

(43,128 posts)It is the demeanor of a leader fully assuming the mantle of command, rightly proud and patriotic, knowing he does right in every way possible, maybe even a little exasperation at the flailing opposition. You nailed it - confident!

(54,344 posts)Biden is a civil man, but push him over the edge, and hell respond in kind. Psaki has more fun ridiculing them by crushing them so gently and subtly that they dont realize they have been smashed until they see their limbs on the other side of the room. That pleases those with a brain. Trudeau just laid it out so that the people who are running around with only half of one can get it, too.
