Every day, I hear about something new and wonderful he has done, straight from my daughter's mouth. From an ardent leftist and Sanders supporter who never liked President Biden.
It is so wonderful not to hear a bunch of trash talking. I fully support President Biden, and am myself rather leftist and a former Sanders supporter (when he was running for President). BUT I am a Democrat first, especially considering the shape the country is in.
I never thought I'd see the day when any of my kids had positive things to say about Joe Biden.

(2,220 posts)During the debates, one of my friends, a 40-something year old rabid Bernie fan, was harping on how Joe was old..he couldnt keep his thoughts straight and slurred his words..he seemed forgetful, maybe even senile. One morning when she was on a roll with this on FB, I linked a really great article, I think from The Atlantic, which talked about his stutter and how hard he worked to overcome it and help others with the same issue. A while later, she commented back, OMG. I had no idea. Im so sorry. Im going to go back and listen to his debate now that I understand. And she did, and she is now a huge Biden fan.
Just this morning, she posted, Joe Biden, is the greatest president in history! I commented, I knew there was hope for you.

(652 posts)All 4 of my kids are Socialists. As the lone Democrat in the family, I am loving this! Of course, these issues personally effect me, their Mom. But whatever it takes not to have black & white thinking about President Biden. Personally, I think he's done a lot of good for the country in the short time he's been president.
Most healthcare facilities that receive Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement, including hospitals, will be required to have their workers vaccinated for Covid.
This is of special interest to my children, as I am being treated for cancer at UPMC (Univ of Pitt Med Center). UPMC does not require, but "strongly encourages" its workers to be fully vaccinated.
BUT it will not tell patients the vaccine-status of workers and will not make sure patients are only treated by vaccinated workers.
I was about to launch a social campaign about this issue. According to UPMC, they think about this issue daily but do nothing about requiring workers to be vaccinated beyond strong encouragement.
When I recently found out about this, I was shocked and angry. Cancer patients often have weak immune systems, including me -- very weak. Although I am fully vaccinated and wear a surgical mast and a KN95 mask at the same time, I have noticed gaps in the staff's masks, which gives the virus easy access to them. Also, no one knows what the staff does when they are not working. Where I live, there are a lot of unmasked people, and plenty of people who refuse to get the vaccine.
So this is a good thing, and I hope that UPMC requires their workers to get fully vaccinated pronto. Especially since the patients are not protected from unvaccinated staff.
"UPMC does not have a vaccine requirement for its 90,000 employees but a spokesperson says like AHN, over 70% of employees are vaccinated.
Their focus is on educating staff and understanding the reasoning as to why certain people have not been vaccinated.
Our approach is to try to get people to get to wanting a vaccine for the right reasons because they know its safe and they know its effective for their own health and the loved ones around them as well as the people we take care of, said Dr. Graham Snyder, the Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology at UPMC.
Right now, more than 63% of Pennsylvanians 18 and older are fully vaccinated and Menio believes all hospital employees should get vaccinated.
Legally you can do it, she said. There are major health systems in Pennsylvania that are requiring it and I think thats the way health systems should go. "

(4,159 posts)I'm 40 years older than your daughter, but I've mirrored her journey. Biden wasn't even in my top 10 for the 2020 primary, but I can now say unreservedly that I'm glad he won both the nomination and the presidency. He's the right man for these times, and he's doing a much better job than I ever dared to hope.

Mostly he complained that Biden was "too old." WTF Bernie!?!
I personally had very little use for Sanders, arguing that in terms of being old, Bernie thinks it's 1969.
My experience is similar. My son is very positive on Joe, particularly with respect to ending the endless war, and it's very clear that Joe Biden is a great man, one thinking clearly and powerfully not about 1969 but rather 2021.

The vaccine thing also denotes boldness and at least will help cull some nests of racists and fascists out of organs of power.
