California voters appear poised to deliver a solid endorsement of Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) as opposition to the recall election mounts and Democratic voters return ballots at a rapid pace.
A new survey conducted by the University of California, Berkeleys Institute of Governmental Studies for the Los Angeles Times shows 60 percent of California voters would reject the recall, while just 39 percent say they will support removing Newsom from office.
Those results show a substantial change from late July, when just 50 percent said they would vote to retain Newsom and 47 percent said they would vote to oust him a year before his term expires. The RW rag known as Teh Hill.
What another waste of tens of millions of dollars and poisoning political discourse for the GOP's cheap power grab.
May other states learn and take California's lead by electing democratic super majorities.
And please California, eliminate the ease by which assholes can get these frivolous recall elections started. ENOUGH of this childish GOP bullshit!

The next election for Governor here is about 1 year away. The reason why this recall even happened was the low threshold for signatures to make the ballot, and because a jackass judge allowed a three month extension for them to gather more signatures to qualify. They argued because of the pandemic they needed the extension. The irony, is those behind this recall are anti-vax and anti-mask, and have been doing everything to keep the pandemic going.
Hopefully the recall will go down in flames, and our legislature will change the recall criteria, at a minimum increasing the number of signatures to be 25% of those who voted, and if the recall is successful, have the replacement go to the Lt. Governor
This is the second time republicans have abused the system in recent time, and enough is enough. They are not using it because of wrong doing or crimes, but because they disagree with someone ideologically. It is insane
After the recall rules are changed, assuming a lot there, they should build in costly punitive punishments for frivolous recalls.

(32,779 posts)Only requires 1 million signatures to recall a sitting Governor.
There are very crazy pockets here to be sure. A few of them are well connected to financial resources. This, complete waste of taxpayer dollars is not Grey Davis part deux.

(19,348 posts)The right failed to get enough signatures the first 5 times but were allowed to continue. There should be a three month period to get the signatures, if not you wait another year to attempt another recall.

(3,695 posts)These GQP recall activists can make a lot of noise online but thankfully can't vote. I never really believed Gavin was at risk of being recalled especially since ballots are mailed. There are too many Dems in CA for this to happen.
