200-plus CEOs 'welcomes' Biden mandate

A group of 200-plus CEOs from companies like Amazon, Walmart, and Home Depot says it 'welcomes' Biden's vax-or-test mandate.

The group represents executives from Walmart, Amazon, Apple, Google, Home Depot, and more.

On Thursday, the group said it "applauds" companies that have already implemented vaccine mandates.

Business Roundtable, a lobbyist group whose members include chief executives from companies like Amazon, Walmart, Apple, Google, and Home Depot, said in a statement Thursday that it supports Biden's plan requiring companies with over 100 workers to mandate vaccines or weekly tests.

"Business Roundtable welcomes the Biden Administration's continued vigilance in the fight against COVID," Joshua Bolten, the group's president, said. "America's business leaders know how critical vaccination and testing are in defeating the pandemic."

"Over the past several weeks many companies have decided to implement a vaccine mandate for some or all of their employees, a decision we applaud," he added.

and do public good as an ancillary byproduct (while the “feddle gubmint” takes the heat for the mandate).

I imagine they don’t want to deal with a massive number of sick days, workforce shortages, HR headaches, insurance premium increases, and service interruptions either.

if all major companies have to comply with the policy, it doesn’t give any one of them a competitive advantage in hiring. I’m happy to know employers won’t be incentivized to coddle anti-vaxxers to keep them from running to a more lax competitor.

I’ve worked for a couple. Nothing wrong with that.

I’m glad the Biden administration is leading the way to a future where a rising tide of vaccinations will lift more boats out of the COVID swamp.

don't like the mandate.

Not exactly a profile in leadership, but if it works, great.

Firing people was the last thing I want to do. Long ago I had to do hard ones. You know them, you may know about their wife in the hospital, child that has developmental issues, etc., etc. I have had to do this a couple of times. It was horrible but unavoidable.

This may change my view on the topic of termination by 360 degrees

when it affects their bottom line. Sorry for my cynicism, but that’s how I feel about it. Between having sufficient workers to get things done and keeping customers alive long enough to buy more product, corporations are overjoyed by this initiative. Won’t stop them from contributing to repuQs, however.

Not quite, more like corporations doing what's good for business.

Vaccines allow for corporations to keep employees at work, reduce their liability to customers, and also increases customer traffic. Seems like a win-win-win scenario. Meanwhile, unvaccinated employees could affect the cost of group health insurance.

I'm sure these companies have seen expensive disruptions. Everything from sick and/or dead employees to lost business opportunities to reduced sales to closing down offices for 18+ months.

They want this pandemic to be over just like most of us do.

The only ones that can, are the ones that have a pre-Obamacare grandfathered self-insurance plan.

The vast majority of employers are restricted by the Affordable Care Act from raising rates based on health status.
