Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are hurtling toward a showdown over President Biden's $3.5 trillion spending plan as they draw red lines around their legislative priorities.
The two veteran lawmakers are at opposite ends of the Senate Democratic Caucus, with no close working relationship and some high-profile public splits in their past.
But the White House and Democratic leaders will need to figure out a way to bring them together, and satisfy their contradictory demands, or suffer a massive defeat of the party's top goals.
"They really do mirror each other in terms of representing different ends of the Democratic coalition. ... They're kind of avatars of like the two wings of the Democratic Party," said Democratic strategist Joel Payne.

The people of West Virginia need to let manchin know they need and want the child credit and the extended senior benefits like being able to see, hear and chew

Like the Cheese in the nursery rhyme, Manchin will stand alone, stinking, as he sweats out whether he is willing to single handedly destroy Bidens agenda.
I dont think he has the guts to do it. AFAIK, the biggest legislation Manchin has previously sabotaged was a gun control bill after Sandy Hook. Otherwise, he has voted with the Dems on all crucial votes. His more troubling votes (Kavanaugh) have come when the GOP was in the majority.
All his headline grabbing statements, op-eds and leaks from anonymous No Labels sources have been desperate attempts to craft a media narrative that we cant afford this bill and it will crash the economy with runaway inflation, a laughable claim easily refuted. So far, none of the other Blue Dogs, save for perhaps Sinema, have shown any waffling on support of the bill.
The reconciliation bill is a thousand times bigger and more important than the gun control bill he sabotaged- When it comes down to it, I think he will vote yes.

The thing I'm wondering, who is paying Joe to act like a Republican?
