93, dying, and voting

My grandfather is proud of having voted in every single presidential election since he was awarded his citizenship in order to serve during WWII. Here he is, 93 years old and on his deathbed, with my aunt helping him fill out one last ballot.

Best to this man and his family.

in her wheelchair. I don't know really how much she will comprehend, probably just the presidential choices.

This reminds me of a death notice in the local newspaper. It ended with the line "In lieu of flowers, vote for Bush." The poor guy must have had a pretty bad case of dementia!

when Ryan was nominated. He thought Ryan was a radical who wants to dismantle government, and was looking forward to voting (absentee), but I lost him on Labor Day.

It hasn't been very long.

I lost my father 35 years ago. He was still complaining about Hoover near the end.

I took care of him in his home for 3 1/2 years, so I had plenty of time to hang out with him and say goodbye (he was sharp until the week he died).

Too funny about Hoover!

... It was during the primary season, before all the s**t hit the fan for Edwards, and that is who she voted for. She wanted to make sure her ballot was filled out and mailed in before I took her to the hospital where she knew she would not be coming home. That was one of the hardest days of my life, but I am proud of her for wanting to make sure her vote was in, and was very sad when the truth about Edwards came out. She would have been so very disappointed in him.

My Grandmother died in 2009 at the age of 87, Obama was the last person she voted for. She was a Labor Dem her whole life. I remember in the summer before the election we were having a family gathering and she says "I'm voting for that fine young Negro man", and one of my cousins is like "great-grandma, nobody uses that word any more!", and she just laughed her ass off!

Dad died in June, but he voted for O. Aunt is 92 & neighbor is 90, this'll be their last, no doubt.

Hell , I guess we just have to think about all the dems being born on this fine day!

Heh heh - get em young.

Wow. Incredible & inspiring!

Really puts the lie to the claim some make about "not having time to vote".

... by the wrong types, anyway.

Whoever this man is voting for, this is a demonstration of just how noble the idea is that every citizen should have an equal voice.
