Frances restrictions imposed on unvaccinated American travelers follow several other European destinations. Earlier this week, Spain also changed its entry policy for arrivals from the US, requiring them to have a certificate proving double vaccination. Denmark and the Netherlands have also recently updated their restrictions, requiring proof of vaccination for US travelers.
**********more..
France just bumped the United States from the country's "green" list, down to "orange," effectively banning unvaccinated American travelers.
This is the wildcard of f*uck around and find out. Now America is on banned travel lists like we're Ethiopia or something. No offense to Ethiopia.

Seems the tourist destination of the unvaccinated American would more likely be The Cracker Barrel

Btw, folks - I strongly suspect Team Biden has a step two on mandates, ready to roll out. Think travel.

(15,325 posts)I appreciate that Biden keeps these decisions quietly within his top tier.
Considering the sabatours around him, it is wise

(54,050 posts)They are comfortable with him, and trust him. They also know the resistance he is up against from the Republicans, and the lack of logic behind that resistance, beyond being opposed to anything a Democrat is for.
When it is said that the EU doesn't fully trust the USA, what is meant here in the EU is that they despise the Republicans, and aren't fully confident that Biden and his congressional allies will be able to thwart every evil move the Republicans make.

This is a very smart move to isolate the spreaders.
Next year or so I want to go to Britain, France and Germany.
I would land in London, then take the Eurostar through the chunnel to Paris.
Never been there.

(11,949 posts)Democratic or Republican, is fully vaccinated.
Im sure there are some who arent. But not many of them are in the crazy evangelical base. They are afraid of other countries. And Im glad of that. The last kind of Americans we need going to other countries.
My company announced mandatory vaccines for employment a month ago. They expect to lose 10-15% of the workforce. Most of us see it as good riddance. Pretty sure the company does as well. Most are older white guys who will retire.

(14,846 posts)I traveled to Germany in the early 80's with my parents, to visit a brother stationed over there, and we only saw London's airport during a refuel.
The Germans were nice, but many of them stared a hole through us. Lol! It wasn't in a mean way. They'd just stare like they expected a vaudeville act from my quiet family any second now, or like people mindlessly staring at a TV screen.
An article about the behavior:

(54,050 posts)It does slow down for a bit at the tunnel, as the cars' wheels need to slowly adjust from British rail width to continental rail width on a specially built track. All you see out the windows, of course, is black as you go through the tunnel. If you want a REAL train ride, wait for a clear day, and take a train from Interlaken to Luzern in central Switzerland. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more spectacular two hour train ride anywhere in Europe, although the tiny "railway" from Mydal to Flåm in Norway has its own charm.
Paris, although I am usually there once a week for work, remains a fascinating city worthy of at least a week's stay. Two weeks if you speak French, as it is so much more pleasant to get around. English is more widely understood in Germany, but don't expect everyone to be fluent like they are in the Benelux countries or Scandinavia. Benelux and Scandinavia show all English-language TV shows and films in the original version with subtitles in their local languages. Germany dubs their foreign TV shows and films into German, and the people are predictably less used to hearing and speaking English. The older ones in the East often know almost none at all, as they grew up in what was essentially a Soviet colony, and were all taught Russian as their first second language. On the other hand, the younger generation in the Eastern European countries had no interest in Russian at all, and took to English as soon as they were allowed. English is widely spoken by educated people (and that's most all of the ones born there) in some of the coolest towns, such a Prague, Budapest and Zagreb. Same goes for Dubrovnik, which though touristy, remains a spectacular place to visit. If you know any Russian, Croatian is not hard to pick up, at least some of the basics, and the locals LOVE it if you try!

(36,739 posts)Id just rather go by train so I can see the countryside.
Did the same between Sydney and Melbourne 20 years ago this month.
I think u answered my question on picking up some phrases of a language before I go. Sounds like French would be better than German.
Thx!

(54,050 posts)France, in general, tends to be less inclined to learn a Germanic language (such as English) than Germany is. Just make sure you don't do it like the Griswolds:

(36,739 posts)Since its another Romance language, the conjugations should be somewhat similar.

(54,050 posts)When we left Cape Cod on August 7th, we were still green. By the time I got back on the 27th, that was no longer the case. Since I am double vaxxed and have a valid EU residence card/work permit, it was no problem for me to get back in, but a few people on my flight were being detained at the border control in Paris, the first place I landed. They were only a handful, as Air France in Washington was already being very careful checking docs before even giving people a boarding pass. The airlines have to foot the bill for passengers they have to repatriate, so they are quite careful to whom they let on the plane.
From Paris to Düsseldorf, there was no check at all, though two days ago, when I went down to Paris for the day, the border police checked every passenger getting off the train, which was nonstop from Belgium. Most passengers had valid docs, but a few tried to get away with fakes, and were detained. Unfortunately, one of them was the guy just in front of me, and I had to wait five minutes while he exhausted his inventory of phony statements and fake documents before they carted him off. The upside is that after him, the French border guard was so relieved that I spoke French and had legit docs, that she waved me through rapidly. At least getting there went halfway smoothly, since on the way back three German trains broke down or were re-routed, and I got home at 2:00 AM after a $130 taxi ride (the last train home had long since left), and I had to get up at 5:30 AM for a 9:00 appointment over in Utrecht, NL.
So, yesterday, I was at my office in NL, and they were going nuts because one of our guys from Dallas was supposed to come by in 2 weeks, and US citizens were just put on the "no entry" list again after several months. Typical EU, the Dutch coordinated this move with exactly none of their neighbors. Our guy, who is double vaxxed, will have to fly to Germany and commute over to NL, since visitors from Germany who come for visits of 12 hours or less need no documents.
Everyone here loves Biden, but the data coming out of Republican-governed states can't be ignored, and since there is no restriction on people traveling to "safe" states from disaster states like Mississippi, Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, South Dakota, etc. etc., all Americans are suspect. Those EU countries that are letting vaxxed non-EU-resident Americans in are the most tolerant. Some, like NL, have temporarily shut the door again altogether. With things improving in some parts of the EU, who can blame them? France used to be on the German danger list. As of two days ago, only passengers en route from the maritime provinces on the Mediterranean required documents to enter Germany. Paris was again on the green list.
