I know very little about Caitlin Jenner other than that as Bruce she was an Olympic gold medalist.
So I have a question. Was she this stupid and RW-ish before coming out as trans sexual? I saw on a George Takei post in IG that in one sentence she was in favor of and opposed to Texas SB8. Does she hear herself? Is it stupidity? Vileness? Narcissism? Delusion? For a while she was legitimately famous for a remarkable athletic achievement, and then for 30 + years became famous for being famous. On balance a sad and pathetic legacy.

I only know this because I have lived next door to her first cousin for over 10 years. He talks to her mom (his Aunt) frequently. Hes a progressive so you can probably imagine how those conversations go, but they remain friendly and in contact. He doesnt maintain contact with Caitlin.

She was always this way, but the stupid show painted a more tame picture of her.

(102,234 posts)to be very stunted in terms of their knowledge base and critical thinking. During their peak, they are asked about their sports (and thus I don't recall Jenner coming off particularly bad as an Olympian decades ago). But, they can be ill-prepared for a future outside of sports.
Obviously, there are many very intelligent and well-informed, well-educated athletes. But, they seek to be so. I doubt Jenner ever did.
I'm reminded of the first time I heard several Heisman Trophy winners interviewed about issues outside of football (Herschell Walker comes to mind, but he wasn't the only one). It was eye-opening, jaw-dropping-- and left me wondering whether the loss of any meaningful education during their college football career was really worth it.

(16,829 posts)I don't think he was very "political" in his younger days because there was no mention of it at all in the film. He was a talented and highly driven athlete. Even so, I doubt he made the kind of endorsement dollars that athletes today make.
Becoming rich and becoming a celebrity might have tipped Jenner in the Republican direction.
What is startling is how utterly naive Caitlin Jenner is regarding the way that women, gays, and transsexuals have been treated by the Republican party. Not a clue.
