The final Los Angeles Times-sponsored recall poll from the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies shows that the upcoming vote on whether to oust Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is all but decided.
According the Friday poll, which surveyed likely voters between Aug. 30 and Sept. 6, a large majority oppose recalling Newsom.
60.1 percent oppose replacing the governor, per the poll, while just 38.5 percent are in favor of the recall.
As the vote is set for Sept. 14, only 2 percent of those surveyed either said they remained undecided or declined to answer, further highlighting the likelihood that Newsom will remain in power.
The poll also found that 65 percent of likely voters, as well as 89 percent of Democratic voters, believed that electing a Republican governor would threaten Californias liberal stances on abortion, climate change, and immigration.

Hopefully this reflects the actual outcome.

(53,953 posts)Our culture thrives on resentment and fingerpointing. Look at how successful "reality tv" is. So in the middle of a economic downturn and simultaneous global pandemic, voting out a governor who has frankly made a couple of dumb mistakes (while being an overall decent and responsible administrator), might be tempting to folks. There's just so many people who live their whole life in reaction formation and are poorly informed on the complexities and details of state government.
And besides, the recall election is still somewhat effective in that it's kept state politics distracted from focusing on real problems like homelessness and climate change.

(1,292 posts)I continue to see pro recall forces campaigning at big intersections, freeway over passes, etc. I dont see Dems KSCO, the right wing talk radio station in the Monterey Bay incessantly urges their rwnj listeners to vote. There is no Democratic equivalent station in the entire Bay Area. These folks are organized and rabid. Dont count them out.
Call everyone you know, even just a little, and beg them to vote No
