Were any of these commercial aircraft involved with Vigilant Guardian? Because, they were doing live simulations of hostile aircraft takeovers. That day. That would be odd if any / and or all were active participants. Or perhaps actively passive participants.

(33,643 posts)So whether they were or not, I very much doubt it's ever been 'said', or I'm pretty dang sure I'd remember it.
I'm still inclined to believe the PA plane was shot down, for the record.
I also believe Hani Hanjour was a VERY skilled pilot, and I'd like to hear more about how he came to be that way.

(33,643 posts)It was an exercise.
Do you know the details of how such exercises 'work'?
I don't.
Ergo, I wouldn't assume this is a 'serious question' absent the knowledge that it must have, by necessity, involved commercial flights in the sky at the time.

(14,853 posts)And like Lebowski wrote earlier, I also suspected that the 4th plane was shot down. The Dumbya team wouldn't want to admit it, though.
If it was indeed brought down by the passengers, then fine. It's not like I'm strongly vested in the idea of it being shot down.
Dumbya and his cronies were well-aware of the growing threat. There was even newspaper articles in my area about instructional seminars to prepare for an Islamic terrorist attack over here, months and weeks before 9/11, with Al-Qaeda mentioned the most. And those articles included quotes from people like Darth Cheney about it.

(21,748 posts)It was (maybe still is) a semi-annual NORAD exercise. And no... NORAD was not involved in the 9/11 attacks.

(21,748 posts)That is an exercise that is run on 'table top' and computers. Zero units... Planes, trains or automobiles are involved.
