‘It Took Her So Fast’: 4-Year-Old Texas Preschooler Dies of COVID Within Hours of First Symptoms

A Texas preschooler died of COVID-19 this week within hours of a fever first coming on, her family says. Kali Cook, 4, died in her sleep early Tuesday morning, about five hours after she was found to have a fever, her mother Karra Harwood told the Houston Chronicle.

“Kali was perfectly fine, and then she was gone,” her mother was quoted saying. “It took her so fast.”

The preschooler at Bacliff’s Kenneth E. Little Elementary School had enjoyed a pleasant evening with her family less than 12 hours before becoming the youngest child to die of the virus in Galveston County.

Kali had just started preschool last month—and she loved it, telling her mother that she “can’t wait to go to school.”

The rambunctious 4-year-old passed away just one day after her mother, brother, and 5-month-old sister learned they were infected. The family is currently quarantined at home.

I thought it was likely the kids got it from school but then I read your linked story.
Either way, as long as young kids cannot get vaccinated, you'd think their parents would do the bare minimum to protect them.

If mom was an anti-vaxxer, chances are the child wouldn't have been vaxxed even if eligible for the vaccine.

My stepdaughter is an anti-vaxxer. Not just Covid, her kids have missed out on most other basic vaccines. She home schools her kids so she can get away with no vaccines. (Of course I got all her vaccinations when she was a child and so did her husband'.))

I wonder if they even get tetanus shots any more? (Once stepped on a rusty nail that went right through my foot. Doc said my tetanus shot the year before saved my life.)

Anyway she and her unvaccinated husband and children go around as if there is no pandemic or communable diseases for that matter. They travel, don't wear masks, rarely use hand sanitizers, go to big gatherings and public events, just act as if the children and adults are fully vaccinated.

And they have never been sick or caught anything. I asked her once if she would feel bad if one of her kids caught a bad disease. She laughed and said that would never happen.....she really believes the family is safe from diseases. I hope her luck holds. For the children.

Seems like this woman's luck didn't hold.

She endangered her child and her child died because of it. There are laws written to protect children and this woman deserves to face justice. When someone kills their own child, we don't say, "meh, the guilt is punishment enough."

I know no prosecutor will take this case, but they should.

did you mean to say, "Until I get all the power."

?

'Cuz that is indeed their game plan. It can't be anything else.

We have been the lobsters in the pot, slowly simmering, while we see there is an actual real life political party that will vaccinate themselves while watching others die so they can appeal to their crazy base, which is the only voters they can get at this point.

Why? What is their problem? Remember Denzel Washington's line from the movie "Philadelphia"? I need somebody to explain this vaccine resistance to me like I'm 5 years old. This is the saddest I've read about. And if the mom does a turn-around and starts advocating for vaccines, the lunatic Trump humpers will call her a traitor.

The more virus in the community, the higher the viral load a person is exposed to, the worse the initial infection and the higher chance for a severe outcome. A child in San Francisco is way safer than a child in Galveston.

The brutal truth is the sheer number of un-vaxxed in her community greatly contributed to this poor kid dying. And Fox News and all right wing media has her blood on their hands.

I posted two articles from the Galveston County Daily News on Thursday night before the Daily Beast posted their article. The second article in the thread that I posted included this information:

About 2 a.m. Tuesday, Harwood’s mother noticed Kali had a fever, she said. They gave her medicine to combat it.

By 7 a.m., Kali was gone.

“She died in her sleep,” Harwood said.

Harwood and most of the rest of her family were quarantined because of their own COVID infections. She said she and her fiancé were out of work because of the pandemic.

Harwood said she wasn’t vaccinated.

“I was one of the people that was anti, I was against it,” she said. “Now, I wish I never was.”
