Not just the famous Aug 6th PDB, but there were at least 2 high profile FBI whistleblowers saying that their warnings were being ignored, including Colleen Rowley, who was in charge of the case of the 20th hijacker who was arrested before the attacks, Zacarias Moussaoui.

Also keep in mind that the great Robert Mueller was in charge of the FBI at that time.

(2,114 posts)Repubs like to attack Dems all the time on security matters, but they themselves FAIL America over and over and over.
9/11 was just one pathetic example of Republican FAIL.

They had a well oiled machine going and nobody was going to stop them, as we have seen.

Iraq too.

(3,991 posts)There is a strong body of evidence suggesting they LIHOP, though were not really allowed to talk about it, because of course, Republicans (and neo-cons) would never play such hardball with peoples lives.

(9,657 posts)regarding Covid, both of which will be precursors to the grandest, most damming question of all, if we are even able to ask it by then: Do we have any answers after all these years why so many climate change forewarnings were ignored?
The answer, IMO, is what post number 1 pointed out: blindly following the money, the greed, the unhindered pursuit of wealth and power, above all else.....above everything including the future of our planet as we know it.

(5,638 posts)the fossil fuel industries effectively paid off politicians to ignore the problem and mounted massive propaganda campaigns against renewable energy.
COVID19 is harder-- no real clear answer for why Trump disabled our pandemic response and downplayed the virus but could be Putin told him to do it, as he was a Russian agent put into place to damage this country, no doubt in my mind.

(37,157 posts)Remember how when Bush came in someone (maybe Cheney, maybe an appointee) quipped that "Now the adults are in charge"?
Bush's top national security/Pentagon/foreign policy positions were heavily larded with appointees who'd spent the previous right years camping out at the neoconservative think tank Project for a New American Century (often abbreviated as PNAC). They were obsessed with Saddam Hussein, were convinced that only state-sponsored terrorism was worth worrying about, considered non-state actors like bin Laden and al-Queda to be irrelevant sideshows, and were openly, utterly contemptuous of the Clinton administration for taking him seriously. They jeered about how Clinton would fire off "million-dollar missiles to get a guy in a tent."
They thought they knew better than everyone else. Bush's administration was so deeply-rooted in that groupthink that they just treated contradictory information as a bunch of scare-em crapola from entrenched bureaucrats.
Bush moved assets away from tracking bin Laden, de-prioritized counter-terrorism, and, of course, threw out an existing plan for beefing up airport security because one of the names on that plan was "Al Gore."
And when they were proven to not be so smart, their first response was to use that attack on us by Saudis and Egyptians as an opportunity to launch one of their pet projects in Iraq.

And just coincidence they got what they wanted?
JHB
(37,157 posts)...that counter-terrorism was something that could sit any wait until they got around to it. That nobody else had a less lackadaisical timetable.
Despite their high opinions of themselves, they were not masterminds.
However, they were consummate, unrestrained opportunists. So instead of having to spend a year or two drumming up excuses to attack Saddam, they grabbed with both hands at the one that fell into their lap due to their own negligence.

(1,780 posts)...who allegedly predicted 9/11? There is an NBC article about it:
[link:https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna3067562|
Not much seems to have come of it. This might have been a "word on the street" situation. The student was never found to know anything incriminating. However, he did predict the attack a week in advance. His teacher (who reported the incident) was described as "100% credible" by the NYPD.

(5,638 posts)I had heard that anyway... there were a lot of predictions actually.
