from 9/11... I find a long list of names read aloud, like at graduations, stultifying but it's 20 years to the day so I get what they were going for.
If we started doing similar programs for Covid, we would have to broadcast twice a week for over two years just to clear the backlog up to today, and by then there would be two years worth of backlog (but smaller, most likely, thank you vaccines). Still, twice a week, new names every broadcast, for three or four years... What this virus -- and the behavior of these oppositional assholes who make the pandemic worse on purpose -- is costing us is hard to fathom.

(12,622 posts)the World Trade Center site and Memorial. Every year survivors and families read the name of every victim and ring a memorial bell. Been happening for 20 years now.

(6,794 posts)who died in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Or all of those who died in war and that includes the war on COVID and the January 6 names. After a period of time it becomes less meaningful.

Covid, or rather the country's mishandling of covid, killed them too
