Here is a commentary by Beau that I think is of some value for all of us to keep in mind, when such discussions come up.

OP
I read the article about a hospital in Idaho ( ironic, yeah?) going to triage.

(60,010 posts)1. I read the article about a hospital in Idaho ( ironic, yeah?) going to triage.
The article described the choices/ process/ implications but never used the word triage.
I sorta understand they may have been trying to avoid any alarm, but I thought that might be a mistake for exactly the reason Beau sez.
In any event, we are here, whether anyone is admitting it or not. A man from Cullman Ala. died of heart attack because no hospital in Alabama had room to take him.
Medical staff reported calling 43!!!! hospitals before one in Mississippi, some 200 miles away, had room. He ran out of time.
My community hospital is less than a mile away. Nearest one after that is 55 miles away.
Both are out of ICU and Emergency beds, both are rural, with limited staffing at night.
Really really bad news for thousands of people in rural communities.

(509 posts)2. And now we have arrived at the "Death Panels" that the ReThugs said the Dems were trying to start.
And, we have them, thanks to the ReThugs.
