Utah woman loses hair, dignity, confidence in phone scam convincing her to shave head
by Larry D. Curtis, KUTV
Friday, September 10th 2021

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Megan Randolph is mad. And devastated. And in her own words, her confidence has been "rocked."

Randolph, a model from Layton, Utah, is the victim of a scam. But the scam artist wasn't after her money so much as her dignity — and her hair.

"Oh yeah, I haven't left the house, I don't plan on leaving the house until I can figure something out and I know that sounds silly," the now completely bald Randolph said.

It started with a text message from a stranger, and Randolph told KUTV she just doesn't give her phone number out to strangers, but this one already knew her name and "Ashley" said she had been referred to her. Before the conversation was over, Randolph had been convinced to shave her head down to the skin, and her eyebrows, in exchange for a couple of thousand bucks.

How can anyone be so gullible?

A full 1/3 of eligible voters in this country thought a known fraud and conman would make a good president, and you ask how anyone can be so gullible?

Almost makes being talked into shaving ones head look tame by comparison.

It’s just that now-days everyone and their cousin can splash their stupidity on the world stage within seconds. So it SEEMS like the country is becoming more stupid, but it’s actually the same level of stupid we have had all through human history.

Otoh, as members of the human race we all have endless opportunities to feel embarrassed and/or proud as we're inclined.

awful prank. I know a few people who are like that, & there's not much that can change them. With friends I just try to council them if I hear about something soon enough, and lend an understanding ear when it's already happened.

I get that she wants to warn others not to be so stupid but she might as well just go on out since everyone has seen her already.

from private and work involvements is that reporters usually get something, and often a lot of things, wrong.

That's how she feels also.

I wasn't scammed out of anything, but it's malicious; it's 100% cruel," she said.

Agree. Sounds like she wants people to be aware of, and beware of, meanness.

The Stanley Milgram obedience studies though flawed did reveal just how easy it was to get people to do things based on the perception of authority.

The McDonalds Strip Search case (actually a series of cases) was another horrific demonstration of the power of “authority”.

I'm so embarrassed, I won't leave the house. I even wear a beanie at home.

Meanwhile, here are several dozen pictures, videos, and a news article with my face all over them.

Seriously, you guys. So embarrassing!

So anyway, my agent's number is . . .

This is like the long form of the, "Feeling cute, might delete later . . ." meme.
