Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes has signed on for another four years.
The new employment agreement, announced Friday by parent company News Corp., will keep Ailes at the controls of one of the television's company's most successful divisions through the 2016 presidential election.
In addition to serving as chairman and chief executive of the top-rated Fox News, Ailes also oversees the company's 27 television stations, Twentieth Television syndication, MyNetwork TV and the Fox Business Network.
"He will also continue in his role as a senior advisor to Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch on television and news matters," News Corp. said in its brief statement confirming the new deal.
The colorful and sometimes controversial Ailes has been with News Corp. since 1996, when he launched the Fox News Channel, which has redefined cable news. His previous deal, signed in November 2008, was set to expire June 30.
Financial details of the arrangement were not immediately available. However, Ailes, 72, was already one the most handsomely compensated executives in television -- and within News Corp.
Last year, Ailes' compensation package topped $21 million, including a $5-million base salary, a $4-million stock award and a $9-million bonus for his leadership of the Fox News Channel.
