A Missouri cafe converted itself to a private club with $1 membership fees to avoid mask-mandate

rules - but a court shut it down

A Missouri cafe was forcibly shut down after its owner attempted to convert it to a private club with $1 membership fees to skirt local mask requirements.

Rae's Cafe and its owner, Amanda Wohletz, were hit with a temporary restraining order on Friday over health-policy violations, local TV station KSHB Kansas City reported.

The restraining order was just the latest update in an ongoing battle between the Blue Springs cafe and Jackson County officials, according to court documents and local reports.

Officials said in a petition filed earlier this month that Wohletz refused to close despite having her food permit revoked on September 3.

Yes I'll have the cholesterol laden eggs and hash browns with a side of COVID.

Nearly 12,000 people in Missouri have DIED of stupidity as much as Covid. You can't reason with this human garbage. You just have to let Darwin take its course.

They probably thought they were clever with this trick.

It all boils down to "sticking it to the man", whatever the consequences, be they committing a crime or putting others' lives at risk.

From the article:

The members-only club had a $1 fee to join and didn't allow patrons to wear masks, AP reported.

KMBC on Friday posted a video with a shot of the cafe's front windows with two signs: "Rae's Cafe is NOT open to the public" and "Our Authority comes from GOD! Not the Jackson county health department!"

These people are not like the Missourians I remember from my childhood in the 50s and 60s, but neither are the folks in my original home state of Tennessee.

The foundational disease here is mental not physical and it's a very serious national issue.....
