An Unbelievable conversation at the tire place this afternoon

I had to go to the local tire distributor's place today to get a set of tires for the front of the tractor. They ordered them a couple of days ago so I just walked in to tell the young lady who runs the place what I was there for. We know each other, and she is not one to restrain herself, at all. So she yells out to me, "what did you think about the debate?" I said I was one hell of a lot happier with the second one than I was with the first, but I was pleased that Obama had come through.

I did not expect this to be well received by the other people in the room, who were two guys sitting down near the desks, one of which turned out to be a tire delivery fellow and the other just another customer like me. Also in the room was a young lady, mid-20's hauling around one small child, and another employee of the place.

It was like someone popped a cork out of a bottle. First the tire distributor chimes in, "Romney don't give a flying fuck about people like you and me", he said as in the background the boss-lady chimed in again saying "he don't know jack shit about how we have to live". Right then and there tossed in my little bit reminding them about the 47%, which they were all knew about.

I was just amazed by this because this is about as red a county as you can find in West Virginia. But there it was, every person in the place voiced essentially the same opinion, that Romney was no good for the country, and for the most part we were all just strangers who happened to come together out of nowhere. Folks, I see this as a very good sign.

...Republican district. People were coming in for signs, buttons, etc... One elderly lady climbed clumsily up our front steps asking for a bumper sticker. I jumped up and showed her our selections....she divulged in a whispery voice that she was a Republican, but wanted an Obama sticker, and a button. Apparently she had only voted the straight Republican ticket her whole life, because she asked me how she could vote for Obama.... I explained how the ballot would look, and showed her the actual ballot.... I asked if she had considered voting for other Democrats on the ticket, asked how she viewed the current incumbent Repub. Congressman, and she shook her head and rolled her eyes at the thought!! I encouraged her to consider several other Democrats on the ballot. Her visit made my day!!!

Given the fact that Obama kept many American tire manufacturers in business with his "getting tough on China" that Rmoney claims he didn't do. Today on Ed Schultz, a woman from Freeport, IL called in to say that right down the road from Sensata, there was a tire plant that was saved because of Obama's actions, so she said she thought it would be a good idea for Obama to come to Freeport and show a real-life example of his policies (that saved the tire plant and all the jobs in it) versus Mitt's (that is forcing American workers to train their Chinese replacements).

and though most of the farmers here are strong RepubliCONS, I noticed this year there are NO Romney yard signs or barn signs. They had them up for the bushes and McCain, but none up for Romney. Isn't it strange.

54. 99% of us are too broke to afford to pay attention 1/2 the time, so that is part of it.

Obama isn't perfect, but he's a decent person with a lot of solid ideas that don't slip and slide and morph all over the place. The lies that have been told about Obama have been refuted over and over again. He's remained calm and carried on with the business that needed to be done.

Contrast that to Robme who is frothing at the mouth and looking like a rabid dog.

I think on one hand there is an instinctive distrust going on for many that looks simply at Robme becoming a bit unhinged. That concern one feels about someone so unpredictable having their finger on the button that could start Armagedon.

On the other hand there are farmers dealing with Big-Ag, the cousin of Big-Business. They KNOW that their own tough independence only goes so far with that unfair type of competition but the repuke factory is spewing so much rhetoric at them, their churches are siding with the CONs and frankly Farmers work so long and hard they need an honest media to present the facts so they can make an informed decision and WE don't have honest media. We have scattered bits and pieces of honesty in the media with the BLARE of FAUX News in the background.

STILL after 8 years of *ush and 4 years of watching the Tea Baggers get nothing done in Congress ON PURPOSE, the hard working people in farm areas are beginning to pull the strings of truth out of the pile of lies and they DON'T WANT TO SEE IT, but they aren't dumb. I'd say the majority of them are learning to fear Robme, the Koch brothers and the Tea Baggers which is beginning to out weigh the fear the right wing has created about Obama.

I too was in the tire shop in Colorado Springs two Sundays ago. As I sat in the waiting room along with two other guys. One of them made a remark about how we will all be hurting if Romney is elected. The other one chimed in in agreement and we had the green light to bash the asshole for a few minutes. The amazing thing about this is that this just doesn't happen in Colorado Springs!. I wish I could say it was a larger sampling, but it was still a pleasant surprise for this area.

He ran into a guy that frequents his business, the guy is someone you'd think would never vote for a Democrat. In any case they started talking about politics, and my hubby was thinking here comes the Obama bashing. Then the guy asked him: who are you going to vote for? My hubby told him Obama, and he was prepared to tell him why. Then the guy let out a loud sigh of relief, and said me too! A lady who was standing nearby gave them a thumbs up.

I am in rural Missouri, and I am NOT hearing this anywhere. There are a LOT of Romney supporters in this area I did notice the other day that we have a Democratic office downtown, and that was pretty exciting. But in all honesty, I'm a little afraid to go in there, or put signs in my yard for fear of retaliation. I know that's sad, but it's the honest truth. I know a few other Dems in this area, most of them are my friends, lol, but we have had some issues around here with vandalism to houses when they have Dem signs in their yards. I really want to have an experience like you had in public, but doubt it's going to happen around here... Glad it's happening somewhere!

Many people here in Texas are reluctant to put a Obama/Biden sign in their yard or bumper sticker on their car. Your car will get keyed and your yard sign will either be stolen or vandalized. This is in Dallas, not some small town in east or west Texas. If you walk in a business like a tire store and announce you're happy that Obama won the last debate, you'll probably end up buying your tires someplace else. Austin is the only city in this very red state where it's basically OK to be a liberal. Austin's motto, after all, is "Keep Austin Weird".
